Advantages: Quiet at the weekends and in the evening.
Disadvantages: Can be a little too quiet for some people.
I actually stayed in a hotle in Wall Street when I was in New York (see my Holiday Inn review). I reallt liked the financial district for lots of different reasons.
My hotel was in very easy walking distance of the World Trade Centre, the Stock Exchange and Battery Park and so the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island were very easy to reach. Consequently, there are lots of major tourist attractions within very easy reach.
The district is quiet at the weekends and during the evening so it is quite nice to be able to retreat a little from the total mayhem that is the rest of New York.
Just below the financial district is Southport too. Now this is not a major tourist attraction but I would recommend it to anyone because it's a very pretty little shopping mall with loads of shops, restaurants and cafes built onto a pier that overlooks a real fishing harbour. You get a great view of Brooklyn Bridge from the pier and it is very relaxing.
Wall Street is the kind of place that you want to visit to see what all the fuss is about. When you get there is is a little disappointing but the area itself is great.
