Lindisfarne Castle:
... Castle is one of the prettiest little castles in the whole of England. Perched on top of a conical whin stone hill, it is set against some of the most spectacular views of sea and sky, and could have been plucked straight from the most romantic fairy tale. The castle is built on Holy, or Lindisfarne Island, in Northumbria, and can only be accessed without a boat twice a day via a causeway, when the tide... Barbican Arts Centre in general ... Barbican Arts Centre is hidden away in the City of London. Close to Moorgate or Barbican tube and not too far from Liverpool Street, it has good transport connections. The centre is vast and houses two art galleries, two theatres, three cinemas and a music hall. The two galleries both house temporary exhibitions, the large gallery on the 3rd floor generally has three exhibitions a year and focuses on design, photography, fashion etc. Recent highlights have been Alvar Aalto, Victor & Rolf and the amazing In the Face of History photography exhibition. There is charge for this gallery of £8 and there is always a small but well-stocked shop selling various book... Fountains Abbey ... a recent break in Ripon, North Yorkshire, I took time out to visit one of my favourite places, Fountains Abbey. ~~~~~~~ LOCATION ~~~~~~~ Situated 4 miles west of Ripon, just off the B6265, Fountains Abbey is very easy to find by following the brown tourist signs. It is also only 8 miles from the A1 and easily reached from Harrogate and York. If using public transport then bus services are in operation direct from Leeds, or alternatively the Ripon Roweller runs from Ripon to Fountains Abbey daily. The postcode for sat nav is HG4 3DY. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A LITTLE HISTORY ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The beautiful Abbey ruins are the largest monastic ruins in the country. Founded in 1132...
