Advantages: views

Disadvantages: climbing, decor

Quite a bit to write about here as there are many facets to the castle. Victorian Scots baronial style pile built for the Donegall family who have long since gone. Now owned by the council it has lovely proportioned rooms and great views, marred by bad typical cheap hotel corporate decoration and furniture.

The unusual stone spiral staircase is a favourite with wedding photographers. The garden is very well tended and has a cat theme.

A climb up the mountain is well worth it but it is an effort. We did it on a whim and at times I was wondering if we were mad. Some parts are very steep but the views are wonderful and you can the look from far below and think 'I stood there'.

The cellar restaurant in the castle is a great place for a meal, nice touch having an antique shop in the cellar too, just the place for a browse before eating.

Summary: Its our castle
