Advantages: The grounds
Disadvantages: Move the Totanic memorial!
Sitting pretty like a big wedding cake right in the centre of Belfast, this building has an interesting history and has literally sat in the centre of Belfast's history.
While always a rather frothy looking Victorian edifice, one of the nocer l;ooking city halls I've seen, perhaps bacause iof the bloody history of politics here I always found the place rather intimidating. It was a bit of a no go area, all security and very un people friendly when I was a student. The grounds were always a people magnet and happily still are.
Now a cahnge, the city hall is presently closed for refurbishment and is soon to celebrate its centenary. It was and will be open to the public. Things have moved on here and the city hall has too. Recentley I went to a Titanic exhibition there which was poignant. The interior is suitably impressive, all marble grandeur and pomp. Interesting pictures, windows and an exhibtion on the building itself, all enlightening.
Oddly the Titanic memorial used to have a much more prominent position at the front and was moved to its obscure side site many years ago, such a shame and now its lost behind the big wheel's ramps. It deserves more prominence as it could be such a visitor magnet.
Summary: No longer a place of mystery
