The Blackpool Tower is one of the main tourist attractions in Blackpool, situated on the promenade. The Tower was built in 1894 and in height it stands at 158m (518ft) tall, The Blackpool Tower can be seen from other places such as Morecambe Bay and in September the Tower is illuminated which is a beautiful sight.
I have visited Blackpool on several occasions and each time I have made a point to go to the Tower, there are a number of activities in the Tower which are suitable for all ages. Over the years Blackpool Tower has changed in many ways and it is as enjoyable now as it was when I first visited Blackpool.
The Tower Ballroom - The Tower Ballroom has been in the Tower from 1897, the ballroom is absolutely amazing and has held shows such as Strictly Come Dancing among others, there are also shows held in the Ballroom on certain nights of the week, visitors can enjoy the music from the organ or watch the dancing and they can even join in and have a dance. The ballroom is amazing, however we didn't spend a lot of time in here as the kids got bored quite quickly, but it was beautiful none the less.
The circus - The circus is shown at certain intervals throughout the day and is produced by a Hungarian, the main star is a clown called Mooky and there are loads of fantastic performances that will have visitors at the edge of their seat, one of the most amazing things about the circus is that the circus ring is lowered into a pool of water for the end performance which is fantastic. The circus was fantastic, we all really enjoyed it. The kids said it was the best circus they had ever been to.
The Aquarium - This is the oldest part of the building, the Aquarium remained open while the Tower was built up around it, The Aquarium is home to 57 different types of water and salt water fish. Walking round the Aquarium was enjoyable although the kids rushed round everything and we were done within about 15 minutes. Still enjoyable!!
Jungle Jims - Jungle Jims is a large play area for kids, there are slides, pits filed with coloured balls and climbing ropes as well as other fun stuff, kids will have hours of fun playing here and parents can sit in the family bar and enjoy entertainment such as music and competitions, the bar is only a short distance from Jungle Jims. The kids really enjoyed Jungle Jims while we enjoyed listening to the music with a cool glass of juice, we never seen them for hours.
The Tower Top - Visitors can take a lift to the top of the tower, once at the top you can look through a window on the floor and look down to street level, then you can walk across the glass window which is known as the "walk of faith" there is a small gift shop were you can purchase post cards and have them posted from the top of the Tower, then there is another three levels before you reach the highest point of the tower although you have to climb the stairs as the lift does not take you to this point, once you arrive at the very top the views are amazing and on a clear day you can see as far as the Isle of Man, North Wales and the Lake District. We all enjoyed being at the top of the Tower.
Other Activities - The Tower Heritage trail which is about the history of the Tower, then there was the Jurassic Walk which was all about dinosaurs. We didn't do these activities as it was late by the time we had done all the other activities.
