Disadvantages: Expensive if you only want to go up the tower itself.
I have fond memories of the tower. I used to live near Blackpool and visited the tower about half a dozen times.
The tower was built as a tourist attraction, in order to make its owners money. It is built on top of a large building that is filled with many activities. Before you get anywhere near the tower itself you have to pass through the usual Blackpool distractions such as amusement arcades.
The tower does have two unique features though.
The tower circus used to be quite good. Ihave heard that it's gone a bit lame recently.
The world famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom is situated here. With five or so different organs that rise magically from the floor, with the organist already playing. This is where the TV show "Come Dancing" started, and it still returns often. There will always be elderly couples dancing the foxtrot stiffly, reliving their early days. It's worth popping in to see; or you could book it for your own, more lively, party.
Once you get to the top of the tower tye view, weather permitting, is spectacular. From hear the whole North West Coast is spread before you. The Lake District to the north, The Isle of Man out to sea, and Lancashire's countryside inland.
My only complaint is that you can't just quickly pop up the tower and bypass the interior goings on. You have to pay full whack (£10) to get through the door. This must put many tourists off.
