Covent Garden

Description: Covent Garden is a district in central London straddling the easternmost parts of the City of Westminster and the ... more
Covent Garden ... southwest corner of the London Borough of Camden. The area is dominated by shopping and entertainment facilities and contains an entrance to the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, which is also widely known simply as "Covent Garden," and the bustling Seven Dials area. The area is bounded by High Holborn to the north, Kingsway to the east, the Strand to the south and Charing Cross Road to the west. Covent Garden Piazza is located in the geographical centre of the area and was the site of a flower, fruit and vegetable market from the 1500s until 1974, when the wholesale market relocated to New Covent Garden Market in Nine Elms. Nearby areas include Soho, St James's, Bloomsbury and Holborn.

Newest Review: ... personally I find it easier to get off at Leicester Square and walk up to Covent Garden, a short walk of about five minutes. The name is a bit misleading as there is no greenery to be seen instead it is a large square the centre of which is taken up by a large stone and glass building which houses a market. Most of the market stalls are of the kind that sell things for tourists, lots of arts ... more

I was struggling to come up with a topic to reflect my 1,500th review on Dooyoo, after all by the time you get to that number of reviews all the obvious stuff like reviews of Dooyoo or the crown system have probably been done so instead someone suggested doing a search on 1500 and picking from that, well nothing great came up excepet for some strange reason Covent Garden which is as good a place as any to review. Located in central London Covent Garden is a big tourist attraction and a major meeting point for many people visiting London. It is easy to get to as it is on the Picadilly Line although do be aware that the tube station is serviced by lifts and ...  Read the complete review

Not a garden! This square in the heart of London is mercifully traffic free and thus full of foot soldiers from all around the globe doing what everyone does here - strolling around. There are things to amuse you - street entertainers, musicians, a farmers market, bars, restaurants, shops and the weird and wonderful folk themselves who form the perfect subjects for a spot of people watching. Most people use Covent Garden as a meeting point and it has excellent access to entertainment in the area - theatre land is adjacent and of course there is the magical Royal Opera House in one corner of the square. Nearby Neal Street offers boutiques, high fashion and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Covent Garden: You'll love it My Fair Lady (608 words)

Ever since seeing the flower cart in My Fair Lady I've wanted to go to Covent Garden. When I first arrived in London I headed to Covent Garden and since then I've been many times and take all my overseas visitors there. Getting there by train is your first taste of something different. On arriving at the tube station there is a sign to tell you that you can walk up but the stairs, but upon reading the high number of stairs (I think it's in the hundreds!) you will most certainly decide to take one of the large lifts. ''Please have your ticket ready when getting out of the lift'' is good advice because when the door opens you are ...  Read the complete review
