Advantages: cheap, fresh air, nice walk

Disadvantages: not enough inforamation, room for more potential

Foremark reservoir and Visitor centre is a great day out for any family. Its located just off the A514, Near Ticknall in Derby.
I am quite local to Foremark as I live in Derby myself but while visiting another local reservoir called Swarkestone I found out about this reservoir as I had never heard of this before.

As you drive into Foremark there are parking barriers for you too get a ticket and I believe the parking is £1.50 all day which isnt too bad but can be quite steep when you just want to nip around for a 20-30minute walk around the lake.

There are two tracks too drive up too the reservoir which just take you to two different sections. One is takes you too a big carpark which has a childrens park, toilets, visitor centre and little snack shop. The other track takes you to another carpark but just takes you too a wall where you can view the lake from.

The visitor centre is slightly small it has a few free leaflets with information on etc. They could really make this into a good museum type room for children which I think could be a good idea. The toilets are nice and clean which is a big plus for me! The snack shop sells icecreams, drinks and few chocolate snacks etc.

As soon as you park up infront of you is a massive field of grass with the lake directly infront of you. There are several picnic benches and seats so you can take a picnic and blanket and sit virtually right on the edge of the water.

In the summer its great because you can get right up to the water and the children can have a little paddle. You must be warned though it is VERY windy as its a massive open space and I tend to find even in the hottest weather that it is very cold because of the wind!

There is a woodland walk around the lake which is nice for bird watchers as there are plenty of sections with benchs and information boards telling you about the area. There is also a local sailing club on the other side of the lake so you will most likely see people in there boats etc which is also great for the children.

The childrens park is great. It has a wooden climbing appratus and swings etc but the big downfall is there wasnt much for toddlers and younger children, just one set of baby swings.

A great day out for the family and for a nice stroll on a cheap price in the credit crunch!!

Summary: Fab day out for all the family and only £1.50!
