Advantages: It was very entertaining., It was educational., You got to walk on Coronation Street.

Disadvantages: IT'S SHUT!

I have visited Granada Studios in Manchester on numerous occasions and always had a great day out. It is the place where you get to walk down the famous cobbles of Coronation Street. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than nosing through all the windows of Britain's best loved street?

I decided to organise a school trip to the studios. Not only is it an entertaining day it is also very educational. There are tours backstage where you can see the make up department, props and scenery as well as the editorial suites. I seemed to be drawing a total blank in my search for information though. There was no web site to be found, no leaflets etc.

A friend mentioned to me that he went to the studios in April and when he arrived they were closed. Now I know that on certain days they do close because of filming and so presumed that this was the reason.

I dialled 192 and asked for the number. On telephoning I was told that Granada Studios has closed down. From what I understand there are no plans to reopen it either.

I can't imagine why this has happened as the admission prices were hardly cheap and the place was always packed with visitors. So now I am struggling to come up with an alternative for our trip - suggestions gratefully received - (must be wheelchair friendly and within 2hours drive of South Yorkshire!).

I hope that this op will save someone out there from driving all the way to Manchester to find that it is closed down.
