Advantages: Beautiful, stunning and creative

Disadvantages: I couldn't bear to leave

Devotees of Charles Rennie Mackintosh will already have trekked to Helensburgh to see the house he designed for Walter Blackie the publisher beside the River Clyde.
I have several books/postcards of Mackintosh work but was totally unprepared for the stunning architecture and designs. The colours, the simple yet intricate designs and the love and devotion he put into a house which was never going to be his was totally overwhelming.
Built at the turn of the century, it was light, bright, dark and dramatic all in one.
I wanted to stay forever.
I can't put into words how wonderful it was, you will need to look for yourself, check with opening times. We went at 1-30 on a Sunday and it was just opening.
Also had an excellent tea room with good scottish home baking.
