Advantages: great historical site, lovely day out, beautiful scenery

Disadvantages: hard to get too by bus

The Hill of Tara is the second most important historical site in Ireland. It is situated 30 minutes away from Dublin on the main Navan-Dublin road. The Hill of Tara was home to the high kings of Ireland for thousands of years. It is the place where St. Patrick went and talked to the king of Ireland and explained the holy trinity with the use of a shamrock. The hill is home to many historical sites ranging from the lia fail, (this was the stone of destiny or fertility and was used in chosing the rightful king of ireland, it was said that when the rightful king placed his hands on the stone that it would sing out letting all the people of Ireland know they have a new king) The Mound of the Hostages where they found a child on top of the mound i am phoetus position the same way as the used to do it in the Inca Empire. There is Grainne's Fort where it was said that one thousand and one maidens including a princess was killed.
There are many more places to see but the best part of the hill is where it is situated. It was called the hill of Tara after the Celtic Goddess "Tea" or wall of Tea. It was chosen to be there as if you look out on the western side of the hill near Grainne's Fort you are able to see for miles in every direction.
The best times to visit the hill is in the summer arround midday as there is a tourist center which will tell you all about the hill and there is a tourist shop which contains from jewlery-books-coffee shop which i would recommend. Well I hope you will visit this landmark and maybe i will see you there as i visit there often.

Sounds like a lovely place... do you have to pay to get into the visitor centre?
