Advantages: Lovely setting, good parking, restaurants, easy to find

Disadvantages: Part of it you have to walk along a road

I am literally five mintues from Hollingworth Lake - my parent's have lived here for about 25 years and I grew up here.

Hollingworth Lake is in an area called Smithy Bridge / Littleborough.

If you live near by, it's easy to walk here or if you're coming from further away then there is plenty of parking around the Lake on the side streets - don't pay!!!

Smithy Bridge train station is also fairly near, about 10mins walk away, which is on the Leeds-Manchester line.

The motorway at Milnow is also about 5mins drive away, which is handy.

The Lake is in the pennines, so the surroundings are really nice and very beautiful. I don't think I appreciate it enough since I grew up here!

The Lake is a good size for a nice walk around, it takes about an hour depending on how fast you walk or run. Many people also enjoy cycling round.

There are many benches along the way to sit down too :)

At many points you can walk down to the water and mess around there - you'll always see people with their dogs messing in the water.

Half way round is a small cafe with lots of benches, which gets busy in the summer. There used to also be a small play area, but not sure if that is still there.

You'll also find some bird watching huts around the Lake.

Along about 1/4 of the Lake, you have to walk along the road, which can be annoying as the pavement is quite narrow and you cannot go down to the water because of safety.

You can also have a really nice while you're at the Lake, either at the Beach or the Wine Press (locally known as the Fish). The first also allows children and has a great play area!

During the school holidays, usually Easter, they have a fair here too.

I've lived near here for 23 years and still enjoy a walk around the Lake and always will do :)

Summary: I have lived near here for 23 years and still enjoy it!
