The London Bridge Experience & The London Tombs

I have been wanting to visit this attraction for a couple of months now and finally got my wish last weekend. It is really 2 attractions for the price of one as your ticket gets you access to both The London Bridge Experience and The London Tombs. Located on Tooley Street, right outside London Bridge train station it is conveniently located and easily accessible.

The Price

A visit to The London Bridge Experience is not cheap. If you buy your tickets on the day admission will cost £21.95 per adult and £16.95 per child .There is also the option of buying a Family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) for £64.95.
However, there is currently a 2-for-1 scheme running for this attraction, as long as you travel by train (or have at least bought a train ticket). To take advantage of this offer you will need to pick up a 2-for1 leaflet from your local British Rail station.
Having taken advantage of the 2-for1 offer I would say that the ticket is good value for money, but only at the discounted rate.
If you are unable to travel by train, you can make smaller savings by booking your tickets online.

The London Bridge Experience

Once inside, the basic premise of The London Bridge Experience is that you follow the history of the bridge through the ages of time. You are accompanied on your time travelling journey by a cast of guides, who really put a lot of effort into their performance.
The journey begins with the first bridge at the historic site in Roman times. After this you are guided through time by a Danish Viking, an English peasant from the middle ages and a Victorian scientist. The exhibition is completely interactive and quite interesting.
I thought it lacked a little in the History department. I would have liked a bit more emphasis on the history of London and the bridge, but maybe that's just me being a bit geeky! There is one portion of the tour where you encounter a man whose job is to put traitors heads on spike, which is entertaining but drags on a little bit.
In total the journey lasts about 35 minutes, which I felt was a bit quick. I'm sure if you had paid full price for the tickets you would feel a bit ripped off at this point. When the tour is finished you are then allowed to enter The London Tombs.

London Bridge Experience Summary
Entertainment - 7.5/10
Historical Info - 6/10
Value for Money - 7/10
(With the 2 for 1 offer)

The London Tombs

The London Tombs are billed as London's scariest attraction. When I first heard this I was quite sceptical as I don't think I scare that easily. Happily, I was soon forced to eat my words as what followed was really terrifying (and thoroughly entertaining).
The guides advise that the Tombs are not suitable for small children and I would definitely echo this sentiment (I would say that it might be too scary for children under the age of 11).
The tour takes place in the supposedly haunted foundations of London Bridge. As you queue for entry you are shown a spoof news real detailing mysterious disappearances and gruesome discoveries in the area.
When you enter the exhibit you have to line up and put your hands on the shoulders of the person in front of you, like you are forming a conga line. This is because large parts of the exhibit are in pitch darkness and only lit by the intermittent flash of a strobe light (epileptics take note). As you wander into the darkness clutching the shoulders of your neighbour you are subjected to all kinds of horrors, such as loud explosions, bright flashes and some terrifying and discusting props (a spider web forest and a garden of corpses come to mind). The scariness of all this is magnified 10 fold by the fact that the exhibit is inhabited by a cast of actors whose sole objective is to make you jump. They come screaming out of trapdoors and hidden recesses dressed as axe murderers, zombies and ghouls. They never actually touch you but they come close enough for you to feel their breath on your face. One even grabbed the shoulders of the last person in our conga line and followed us round for a while.
This really was the most fun I've had in quite a while. The actors are excellent and the special effects are genuinely awesome. I spent the whole time either screaming or laughing, usually a combination of both. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Note: The London Tombs are probably not suitable for Children under the age of 11, people with light sensitive conditions (such as epilepsy) or pregnant women.
