Advantages: Great views
Disadvantages: Expensive
The London Eye is a famous "large Ferris wheel" which was created for the millennium. Now standing 130m high it is one of the most famous sights in England and a must-see tourist attraction. Situated on the Thames it is a very pleasant experience that all people from various different ages could enjoy.
The London Eye is located in between Embankment and Waterloo on the London Underground. Personally, I chose to stop off at Embankment to ensure a pleasant stroll across the bridge enjoying the best sites of London. There are several street performers here like people who pay you ten pounds if you can ride a bike to dancers. Also there are a few street shops selling "water balls" and who make your name out of metal in a minute or two at reasonable prices.
One you get there you can choose standard flight opt you can opt for a fast track which lets you cut the queue. On the day we went however, it only took a couple minutes anyway so it doesn't make much difference. Alternatively you are able to get your individual capsule and get served champagne perfect for half hour business meetings and we even saw a couple getting married!
The ride takes a total of half an hour and on a clear day like the one which we went on we could see miles around. Features which we could see included St Pauls, Wembley football Stadium, the Gherkin, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and many more spectacular views. This enables perfect photo opportunities and in deed I took over 70 which is nearly three a minute!
Prices for standard Flight
16 plus £15.50
5-16 £7.75
Children under 5 £0
60 plus £12.00
Prices may vary from time to time and of course for champagne and other luxuries money is added. if you look at londoneye.com and book a day early you receive a 10% discount but make sure you check the weather as if it is cloudy or stormy the ride would be simply a bore.
All in all I would highly recommend this brilliant ride. If the weather is sunny and cloudless it is a truly enjoyable experience. The only problem in my opinion is the price which like most things in London is sadly over charged.
Summary: A truly enjoyable experience

- 27/07/09 I didn't realise it was so expensive! What a rip-off true British style. I'm afraid for us, the price would completely ruin the enjoyment. My husband would be moaning about it for the whole half hour, so not worth it, LOL. |
