Advantages: good design and structure, great views of London,

Disadvantages: I found coming down not as interesting

I have been on the London Eye a couple of times since it was opened to the public in the year 2000. Since it was opened it has become one of the most popular and iconic landmarks in London. I found it to be an enjoyable experience going on the eye and you can have some spectacular views of the city of London and surrounding areas especially on a clear day.

The Eye stands at a height of 135 metres (443 ft) and is the largest Ferris wheel in Europe. Unlike most ferris wheels though the capsules are enclosed and not exposed to the elements. It has become the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom and since it has opened has had over 30 million visitors. The attraction is located on the South Bank of the River Thames in London between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Bridge. Probably the best way to get to the London eye is by public transport and the tube/rail services which has many stations closeby including Waterloo which is probably the closest. Also other stations Embankment, Charing Cross and Westminister are nearby with Westminister station located near Big Ben and the houses of Parliament.

Once you have got your ticket and step foot inside your capsule on the eye you will embark on a 30 minute ride up to the top then back down again before you can walk off. The wheel moves so slowly that you can get on and off without the wheel actually stopping although it is stopped to give disabled or elderly passengers enough time to embark and disembark safely.

I found going up the wheel good and interesting and there are some great views and photo opportunities once you get to the top. I found the second half of the ride coming back down not as interesting really and a little boring.

Overall though it was a good experience and definately something people should try and experience at least once.

The current individual prices for the Eye from the official site:

Adult (16 plus) £17.50
Child (4-15 years) £8.75
Child under four FREE
Senior (60 plus) £14.00
Disabled £14.00

There are also options to hire out individual capsules which obviously cost quite a bit more.

Summary: good experience and definately something people should try and experience at least once.

I am terrified of heights but I loved my flight on the Eye, Susan

yeh it is quite expensive really. I think if you get combined tickets with other London attractions or get vouchers you might be able to get in for cheaper.

I'd like to go on the London Eye but £17.50 is rather a rip off.
