Advantages: Well spent lottery money, Simplistic, For everyone

Disadvantages: Long queues, Rainy days

The London Eye is yet another expensive lottery project that would never have been built without the poverty tax. But in this case its practical and effective over the vulgar dome and pretentious Tate Modern. The Eye is simplistic, grand and cheap which are exactly the projects that suit lottery ticket buyers budgets.
Its majestic span and stature over see almost all of greater London on a clear day and surprisingly blend in with the cities historic skyline. With the modern shadow leaping over the ancient House of Commons, it’s a great example of how to spend public money to benefit all concerned.

The queues are around two hours long on particular hot summer type days and there are markers and people telling you how long left. At seven pounds a go its well worth a ride, although we had vouchers for two freebies prebooked 24 hours earlier.
If you want to book ahead you must give at least a days notice as it is very busy at peak times. It runs from 8-8 most days and each rotation takes around 45 minutes.

Rather bravely, the engineers designed a rolling embarcation system where you have around twenty seconds to get on the moving car. It’s cleverly designed so you hardly notice it although they do stop it for the frail and disabled.
It’s a very slow crawl to the peak of the wheel giving you amazing views on a clear day. You can get excellent panoramic vitas as the cable cars are in a roll cage that rights them at the top. This means the arm support is underneath offering a 300 degrees spectacular.

I could see all the way to the estuary coast to the south and to the M25 to the North and west. I reckon about 25 miles on a clear day like the one we had. It’s probably not worth it on a low cloudbase day. But apart from that it should be ok.
The best views are looking down on the houses and parliament and the silver twinkling river at sunset. The Thames twisting away into the cites smog and hubbub is quite a s
ight.
Well worth a look and a fiver plus after the annual palace haul and museum slog. London is still a mad hustle and clutter with the London Eye offering the new modern face to a dirty city.
