Advantages: Lots to see and lots of interactive things to do
Disadvantages: Expensive and can be crowded
I took my two tweenagers to Madame Tussauds during the Easter break and they absolutely loved it. As the adult footing the bill, however, I have a few words of wisdom to pass on.
My number one piece of advice would be to book your tickets online. This gives you a fast-track entry so you can just show up and join a short queue for pre-booked tickets. Otherwise you may be queueing for up to 2 hours. There are also some good deals available online - we found a 'buy one get one free' deal on 365tickets.com which saved us a lot of money. (I think this is only available for a few weeks but after that they do a half-price after 5pm deal too.)
Secondly, it's a good idea to take your own camera. Photo opportunities abound, and you probably don't want to be paying £7 a pop for the staff to take your daughter's photo with David Beckham et al.
Finally, if you possibly can, go during the week outside the school holidays to avoid the crowds.
Having said all that, we had a good day at Madame Tussauds. The wax figures are extremely lifelike and it's interesting to see what size various celebrities actually are. For example, Kylie really is tiny and Victoria Beckham is even skinnier than you expect.
Madame Tussauds has something for everyone - you start off mixing with the Hollywood A-list on the red carpet of a movie premiere and then there's an interactive sports section where you can take on different sporting heroes at their own game. My son enjoyed racing Lance Armstrong and putting against Tiger Woods.
If you can stand it, you can let your child play at being a rock star in Pop Divas and Rock Gods. This lets you dress up and play air guitar on stage alongside a diverse mix of stars including Justin Timberlake and Jimi Hendrix.
Next there is an opportunity to expand your kids' general knowledge with a room dedicated to politicians and world leaders. My two actually found this really interesting and I was pleased there was at least some educational element to the day!
Summary: Great day out for kids and teenagers
