Advantages: Lots of Celebs, Chamber Of Horrors
Disadvantages: Queuing Times, Crowded
Having been meaning to check out Madame Tussauds for years now, I finally had the chance to check it out when a uni friend came to visit. I really had no idea about what it would be like and only really knew that it was full of wax model replicas of many of the worlds most famous people. I have to say that I thought this was a great few hours and will explain in more detail about my trip below.
So the station I went to was Baker street and it is literally a maximum of two minutes walk away from the station so very accessible and easy to get to. We had to queue for about an hour which was dissapointed, but arrived pretty early and was in no rush so this wasn't too much of a bother. I guess it is only natural that a big attraction will have queues on the weekend.
Once inside the first room was full of mainly the hollywood celebs. The likes of Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake etc. As all the models and proportioned exactly the same as the celebs, it was interesting to see how tall some of them were. On the opposite scale I never knew Christina Aguilera was that small, she must have only been just over five feet. The other main room consisted of the sports stars. The first person I saw was Mourinho and literally ran over to get a pic with him. Apart from Beckham none of the other football stars were getting much attention and the only other was Pele, one of the greatest footballers of all time, and Rooney. Other sports stars were Lewis Hamilton, Boris Becker and the legendary Mohamed Ali. I was dissapointed not to find one of Federer or even more amazing would have been Tiger Woods.
There was also a royal family and history section where you can see the princes and queen and past kings like Henry the 7th and 8th. This was all pretty cool but didnt appeal to me as much as I am not that into my British history. One of the coolest sections was the chamber of horrors. All the girls tended to scream loud in this season and basically it is walking through dark rooms and there are actors who are paid to look scary and run about and try and scare people. Of course they are not allowed to touch you and if you are pregnant, suffer from heart conditions etc or are not above twelve then you can not enter this section.
This was followed by a history of London, where you get to go on a little tax that basically drives you to the next point. This part really showed how much time was put into designing this part of Madame Tussauds and how big the place really is. The next sections were back to the wax models and lots of famous people were in this final section. There was Britney Spears, Bob Marley, Beyonce just to name a few and the people that had the largest queue in the whole of Madame Tussauds was of course Obama. Who after all wouldnt want to get a picture with the most famous and talked about person in the whole world.
Overall it was a great trip, however it is one of those places you only need to go to once, and dont think I will go for at least another ten years, when there is a complete overhaul with the latest celeb models. Of course the downpoints are that there are some people I would like to have seen like Tiger Woods and Adolf Hitler, however I guess they cant fit everyone in and everyone would have different people they like to see, so Madame Tussauds is definitely a trip that should be considered by anyone.
Summary: Overall a great attraction.
