Advantages: Friendly staff, plentiful restaurants/bars, clean abundant toilets.
Disadvantages: a little expensive for food/drink.
I shall try and write coherently...my flu addled brain is rather slow today.
I have never been to the o2 before, but on Tuesday night, clutching my Stevie Wonder tickets, I saw it for the first time.
Its hard to miss it.
The o2 is massive. Not the prettiest of buildings from the outside, but certainly impressive. I could see it from a fair distance away on the train, and became terribly excited when I spied Stevies face on the large plasma screens displayed on the walls of the o2.
North Greenwich train station brings you right outside the o2, and it is very clearly signposted, so you know exactly which was to go.
Its only a couple of minutes walk from the station to the arena, and the architecture, and decor of the entrance is wonderful.
After going through the main entrance, there is a large lobby. Directly in front of you is the point of no return, the entrance to the arena.
To the right, is where all the restaurants and bars are....and there are lots.
Being the dirty smoker that me and the fella are, we were reluctant to go straight through to the arena, as once through, you cant go back outside for a smoke.
Instead we headed right, hoping to get something to eat.
There are probably hundreds of restaurants, catering for a huge variety of culinary tastes.
Unfortunatly, there also seemed to be a lot of hungry people, and every single restaurant had a massive queue outside.
Instead, we went to one of the many hot dog stands, and waited five minutes for a hot dog each. They were very good hotdogs (by the way).
We then searched out the toilets.
As usual, no queue for the blokes, massive queue for the ladies. I decided I would wait until inside the arena.
A quick ciggy later, and we went inside.
There was no wait to get inside the arena.
Our bags were searched, and the lids taken off our water bottles (i dont know why), and we were in.
Once inside we faced more food. You can buy beer, smirnoff ice, burgers, nachos, stir fry etc... You wont go hungry.
Becks was priced at £3.70 a bottle, so not cheap, but the MEN in manchester charges around the same, and considering it is London, its not actually that bad.
The arena inside is big, but not as big as I expected.
Its actually very similar to the MEN.
Our seats were ok, but i would imagine that where ever you were sat, you would have a good view.
The staff were incredibly friendly. We saw many people with walking difficulties being helped down the stairs, and when we noticed that someone had spilled a drink on the stairs, and mentioned it to the staff, they immediatly cleaned up the mess, and produced a wet floor sign.
The toilets inside the arena were plentiful, and there were no queues whatsoever.
The chairs were really comfy, and all of them had drink holders.
We had no problems getting out at the end of the night, and if we had chosen to stick around, all of the bars and resaturants were still open for people who wanted to eat/drink after the concert.
All together a great venue, and I would love to go their again.
Summary: A fantastic venue.
