Advantages: so much to do

Disadvantages: rain will spoil some of it

Pennywell is a lovely farm / adventure park to visit in Devon, just past Ivybridge. If you or the kids love animals, it's the place to go! It costs £10 per adult, £8 for kids, and under 3s are free.

You start off in the shop (very shrewd). From here it's into the barn where you can pet the animals such as rabbits, ducks and tiny pigs. Basically, all the small animals are in here and so is a member of staff who helps you to hold them: lovely.

Next up, it's into the bigger barn where the displays go on, such as feeding goats, hedgehogs and other such cute things. The goats are always jumping up for your food in here, and are very friendly (how cute).

Next up you're outside, and there's a fun area. Five trampolines, an under 3s park area, toy tractors (pedal ones) and the like fill this area, and it really is good fun. I put £1 into a ride and it didn't work, but it was soon given back at the desk on the way out.

At the very end of the area is a huge barn with more animals. You can go into the stalls and play with pigs and goats, or you can play in the sand-pit and on the bouncy castle (all free) whilst adults have a drink from the catering van.

Further on, there's a nice ride a pony area, but this is only on every now and again.

As if that wasn't enough, there are then outside barns with shire horses, huge goats and the like - very cute! Birds of Prey are shown every hour or two, and don't forget the peacocks floating around.

Under a tunnel and you come to the play area - a huge natural maze, an assault course, a small train track ride, go-karts (slow ones for little kids) and a pond to play fishing in all fill the rear of the land.

Finally, there's a café selling cheap but nice enough food and drinks.

I like this place; it's run by Christians, and has a nice friendly vibe. There's so much to do you can stay there all day, although rain will dampen half of the activities unless you're really hardy. There's a good mix of gentle animal play and run around burn off energy excitement, which is always good. The staff are friendly and kind; most are young girls who don't yet know about being moody cows.

All in all, a lovely place.

Summary: do it!
