Advantages: so much to see.

Disadvantages: busy in the summer

If you have lived in Plymouth all of your life like me then you will know that when you hear a local Plymouthian say 'Ere shu we go up the o?', it actually means 'Dear friend shall we take advantage of our local history and take a trip to the Plymouth Hoe and hang out?'. Now that we've overcome the language barrier perhaps I could inform you all what Plymouth hoe is?

Plymouth Hoe.
Plymouth Hoe is in the centre of Plymouth and is on the edge of the water. It's not like an aquarium where you pay to be enclosed in a building and look at stuff. Plymouth Hoe is a lot of land that is all outside and has a few different historical buildings spread over some land. The views out over the sea are fantastic and you can walk along the water whilst eating an ice cream. If you don't want to walk then you can sit at one of the little open cafes along the waterfront and have a nice cup of coffee and a chat instead.

Smeatons tower.
This is probably one of the most popular attractions on the Hoe, so popular that The Beatles had a picture of themselves sat in front of it. It's a huge lighthouse which you can walk up. I know they charge a small fee these days but I can't tell you any more than that because, shamefully I have never been up there. If you are feeling different then you could request to get married up there although you can only have three guests witness your special occasion as it's so small up when you get to the top.

Royal Citadel.
The Royal Citadel is a Marine Biological Laboratory and members of the Army live there. It is centre stage for events which happen throughout the year including the ever popular 'Music of the Night' which happen's every couple of years in July. The outdoor arena adds something special to any event.

Tinside pool.
This is a swimming pool that has recently been refurbished but has been there since 1930's. It opens in the summer and gets absolutely packed with wild teenagers when the weather is good.

War memorials.
These are pretty self explanatory. There are plaques and names of all of the men who gave there lives in the First and Second world wars.

The Hoe is a very busy place although it's much livelier in the Summer months when the fair comes to town and everyone is out enjoying the sunshine (That's not a joke!). If you are ever in Plymouth then I would recommend you take a trip around 'Da O'.

Summary: My home town.
