I've lived in Bristol all of my life and had never visited the SS Great Britain and so, one sunny day decided that we would take a visit to this maritime favourite.

Now, I'm not a great fan of museums and so when the trip was suggested was that keen but decided to go along with it. I was pleasantly surprised. You enter the SS Great Britain museum initally, where you can read about the ship in it's original form, it's rescue and then it's rebuild. There are also video's to watch and small tasks for children to carry out to keep them entertained.

Next, you enter the ship, upon which you are given set of headphones and asked which type of passenger you would like to be, first, second or the ship cat. You then stroll around the ship and told really interesting facts about the area that you are currently in. Manequins have been placed throughout the ship, in the clothing of the time so you can really see what it would have looked like when at sea.

Overall I ended up really enjoying the few hours I spent on the ship. On occassions the Matthew is also moored in the same location which you can also visit with your SS Great Britain ticket.

Your ticket allows you to return as many times as you like within 1 year and so, while initially quite expensive, you can return again and again (if you live nearby I guess)
