Disadvantages: Need to understand Warhammers

The world of Warhammer is a make-believe world where armies fight out battles to dominate the Universe.

For people who are involved with this hobby it is very additive and very interesting. My youngest son has been collecting the Warhammer models for a couple of years and as well as participating in the battles there is also a lot of enjoyment gained from making and painting the models. The models are sold by Games Workshops who have shops across the country. Warhammer World is the name of the Museum at the Games Workshop headquarters at Willow Lane, Lenton, Nottingham.

To visit this museum is a must for anybody who has ever bought or collected any of the Warhammer models.

Entry to the museum is £1 each, but only collectors are charged for entry and other members of the family can enter for free. You buy your tickets from the shop. One of the members of staff takes each party of visitors around the museum and explains each of the army displays, including the history and facts. Each display contains hundreds of models, set out in battle situations, and there are about six different displays. The size of each display is so impressive that it takes the guide quite some time to explain the whole layout. The descriptions are so vivid that you are soon absorbed into the world of Warhammer and start to believe that it really is all true. The guides that take you around are very passionate about the games and know the history and information about the armies in great detail and are keen to pass on this information.

The first display that you see is the entire Warhammer 40,000 Ultramarine Chapter, the hundreds of models in this one display alone take your breath away. There are about six large displays in this room, each showing different scenarios for different army collections.

After seeing all the model armies, the guide takes you to the next area where there are displays of life size Warhammer models, which you have to see
to feel the real power of the Warhammer world. These are set up in a mystical darkened area and you can see the youngsters looking at these models in awe.

The final display area is the games room. This is an enormous room with dozens of games tables permanently set up, many with armies on display. This room is used for club meetings and special games days.

To relax after the tour there is a licensed bar, which has been built with a Warhammer atmosphere to it. It is really nice to have a drink in here whilst the “collectors” spend time looking around the shop, or joining in painting or making activities with the Warhammer staff.

If you are interested in Warhammers then you must really visit this fantastic museum and end your day with a visit to the bar.
