The Waterfront Hall is an iconic Belfast building that is literally being eclipsed which is such a shame.

Originally built in 1997 the Hall was an early vote of confidence in the new more peaceful Belfast. Largely Belfast had turned its back on the Lagan river and the hall was one of the newest and most exciting developments there that have now mushroomed.

A concert hall and exhibition centre, the hall is built in a circular shape featuring much glass to take advantage of the view. Outside there were paved plazas and a waterfront walk. The building encouraged visitors to come into the city at night which once was a distant dream.

I have attended many concerts here and the main auditorium is an impressive and striking venue. There are bars, a restaurant and plentiful airy public areas. It has served Belfast well despite still seeming slightly stranded in its location.

My major beef about the hall is the development is gradually making it disappear, it is an impressive, even iconic landmark in the city and yet any uninterrupted view, even close up, has been or is being built on so we are losing the intended environment the building was to have.
