ArosaNewest Review: ... to Arosa. The track was built in 1912 and winds its way up the valley - terminating in Arosa itself (1800m up!) - in the snow it was the most picturesque train ride i've ever had - takes a little over an hour. The resort I would describe as small/medium - and is split between Arosa and Inner-Arosa. It's got everything a winter wonderland setting should have. As it's so high it has snow for 6months of the year in the village - which I think is important for a ski holiday. It's surrounded in a bowl by big, beautiful mountains, it;s got skating on frozen lakes, rich Swiss wandering around in their furs and horse drawn sleighs jingling alo... more |

Having just returned from a weeks skiing in Arosa I would like to pass on my experiences. I'll cover the next bit in full in other areas - but we booked with Bridge Travel (who didn't perform as well as usual - see report to come) and used our Tesco clubcard points to secure money off. We flew from Bristol to Zurich on BA City express - which was a small plane but fine! Now to the holiday. I'm a great fan of the Swiss - everything is neat and tidy and on-time - especially their railways. We caught the train from Zurich airport - though to Chur (quick change at Zurich HB). Arosa is a beautiful resort high in the Swiss Alps in the Canton Graubünden in the south east of the country. It lies at the head of a long winding valley, about 20 miles from Chur, the cantonal capital. Arosa is about an hour and a half by hire car from Zürich Airport, or almost three hours by train with a change at the main station in Zürich and another change in Chur. Arosa is one of the resorts favoured amongst the middle class Swiss. It's a family resort with only a few night clubs and bars, but if you have kids and aren't a brilliant skier (I put my hand up for both!) then Arosa is just perfect.
