Premium Review Chamonix in the Summer (385 words)

Chamonix is a town in the South of France. It is under the shadow of Mont Blanc and is only a five minute drive to the Mont Blanc tunnel which is the border between France and Italy. Chamonix is most famous for its skiing but I visited this Summer and discovered that it has a lot more to offer. There are lots of hotels in Chamonix, many are very central and within easy walking distance of the centre. The town is actually quite large and has a large supermarket, lots of reasonably priced restaurants serving French food such as fondues and raclette. If French food isn't what you fancy there are ltos of pizza restaurants and cafes (even a McDonalds). ...  Read the complete review

It was planned as a guy's weekend. A bunch of us from the office (actually, two offices) decided we needed a break. A skiing weekend was proposed. It seemed like a great idea. One of our number had an apartment with four bedrooms and those who couldn't fit in would stay at a hotel just a hundred metres away. As it turned out, one of us was of the female persuasion so a guy's weekend it wasn't. Also, by pure coincidence, the apartment had been rented out and so wasn't available; we would all have to stay at the hotel. Then we found that of the ten of us only three were experienced skiers. We ...  Read the complete review

In the spring, April 12 to April 30, I went skiing in Chamonix with my family. Living in the English Midlands, so I do not get a chance to ski often, but consider myself an intermediate to advanced skier (I can do the easier Black Trails). It was close to one of the best ski trips that I've ever had, however there were some things that I wish I had known about before I went. THE GOOD First off, Chamonix is known around the world for some famous things. First it is the home of Mont Blanc. Second, it was the site of the 1934 Olympics, and has significant other historical importance. And Finally, and maybe most appealing, Chamonix is no ...  Read the complete review

If your a skier, a boarder or just someone in need of a break surrounded by incredible scenery....then Chamonix is unrivalled. Shadowed by the incredible Mount Blanc, Chamonix offers something for everyone, winter or summer. As a boarder who has travelled the world I always return here, to get my fix of snow. The slopes cater for all abilities, on and off piste. With regular ‘Easy-Jet’ flights flying from Luton to Geneva it can be amazingly cheap to get there. I have in the past managed to get a return flight for £29!! Chamonix is approx 1hrs drive from the airport…..I recommend you pre-book your transfer as busses can be packed and ...  Read the complete review

Chamonix rates amongst the best areas in the world for both Alpine and non-apline sports. Year-round entertainment is provided through: Mountain-biking - take your bike up the lifts for a challenging ride (like Brevent) or a slow easy cycle up the Valley to Flegere. Para-ponting - run off the top of the mountain with a fully qualified pilot in tandem and float effortlessly down Canyoning - thrilling, and not for the faint hearted Skiing - debatebly the best terrain for on and off-piste skiing, with limitless areas to cover Snowboarding - hook up with Neil McNabb at his Kommunity chalet for an amazing holiday Heli-skiing - of course! Relaxation ...  Read the complete review
