Advantages: Lovely place with lovely scenery and slopes
Disadvantages: Can be quite pricy
Every year for 6 years i have been going to courchevel for my easter holiday with my family and friends and the resort is just stunning! It has been so good that we have gone back every year and next year is included. Courchevel is situated in the three valleys including courchevel, meribel and val thorenes, however courchevel is the biggest resort.
There are a number of different runs for different abilities, going from almost flat to the hardest run in the three valleys, which is called the Grand Couloir. I myself have never been on it but others say that it has been terrifying! If you want to challenge yourself then this run shuld be up your street! The runs can be classified into four categories;
green = easiest
blue = fairly easy
red = fairly hard
black = hardest
Courchevel has a great place for beginners with a 'magic carpet' which is basically a moving carpet. It's easy for beginners because all you have to do is stand on it and it moves you up the slope. When i first started skiing i used this run and it is fairly popular so it can tend to get a bit busy!
At 1850 in courcehevl there is a wide range of shops, restaurants and stalls, a whole variety. There is hire rentals, so if you need to borrow ski's for the week or hire a snowboard for the day then this would be the ideal place because there is a ver wide variety.
You need to have a pass for courchevel to be able to go on the lifts, which can be fairly easy to acquire from the main office. If you want to ski in the three valleys then it is very easy to upgrade your pass for a week or even just one day.
There are a number of different british companies in courchevel so skiing lessons can be fairly easy to book. I go with a company calles ski volution, we get in the package, a chalet at le praz, ski's and boot hire and lessons. The chalet that i stay in is £599, it is quite pricy but there are 7 bedrooms, all en suites and it is in a lovely location. Included in the price is the chalet staff which clean and cook breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea.
If you are looking to go on a skiing trip i highly reccomend that you give courchevel a visit. It is however quite pricy but if your willing to pay the rewards are high!
Summary: Definitely go if your a keen skier
