Have just got back from a holiday of extremes in La Clusaz. From having to walk across roads and streams one day to 18" of powder less than 4 days later. There is a lot of skiing to be had. It is many and varied and, from a fairly low base, skiing is available up to 2600m. This isn't a resort for the out and out thrill seekers who only want black black and more black runs. For improvers, however, and families and for those amongst us who no longer feel they have to ski the steepest slopes just because they are there is more than enough to spend a very pleasant week. A beautiful, small French resort that has escaped the worst ravages of mass ski tourism, La Clusaz is a short drive from Geneva. I went there for Christmas and had a the perfect white, festive wonderland experience. The good points: The town is charming with a lively local produce market and lots of patisserie - boulangerie distractions. You can ski right into the Market place in the centre of town! In fact, Pere Noel (Father Christmas to you and me) skied into town by torchlight, throwing presents to the children. There was also a Winter parade with scary ice figures on stilts. La Clusaz is absolute beauty. The atomosphere given out alone, gives such a lovely feeling. I will write a review to try and describe, as best I can, how wonderful this place is. ACCOMODATION - I stayed in 'Alpen Roc' which is litrelly right next the hustle and bustle of the town. i have been here in the summer and winter, so i have a fair assessment of what the place is like every season. The hotel I stayed in was very authentic, with a sense of being in a large cabin, with beautiful flowers and greenery everywhere.
