Advantages: Short transfer (<1 hour) from Geneva

Disadvantages: Some of the skiing is quite low and therefore not snowsure

Have just got back from a holiday of extremes in La Clusaz. From having to walk across roads and streams one day to 18" of powder less than 4 days later.

There is a lot of skiing to be had. It is many and varied and, from a fairly low base, skiing is available up to 2600m.

This isn't a resort for the out and out thrill seekers who only want black black and more black runs. For improvers, however, and families and for those amongst us who no longer feel they have to ski the steepest slopes just because they are there is more than enough to spend a very pleasant week.

The high runs are steep but wide open, the lower runs well covered by snow cannons. The downsides for me were the interconnects between 4 separate mountains that make up the resort and the "family" runs back down the mountain all of which were well worn out.

Would I go back again? Yes I would. Out of school holiday times the longest I waited for a lift was 5 minutes.

Where would I stay? The Chalet le Panoramic which has got just about the best location that I have everstayed at. Step out of the chalet onto skis and ski down to either of the two main routes up the mountain. Ski back in the evening and step inside for tea and cakes - heaven!
