Advantages: Friendly resort with skiing for all abilities

Disadvantages: none

It doesn't matter if its your first time on snow, or a seasoned skier / boarder. Niederau is perfect for all.

I have been skiing and snowboarding for over 30ears now ( and not just for 1 week each year!). I have been to almost every resort in Europe and have a good understanding of what makes a resort 'tick'.

Niederau is a small Austrian village with a about 6 hotels. one of which is a 4* and highly recommended ( Hotel Sonneschein). There are also plenty of B&B's (pensions) and a few self catering chalets have now been built.
There are a few very nice restaurants and cafes that cater to all tastes. However, the night life is limited. All the hotels have their own bars which anyone (guest or not) are welcome in. there are a few apres ski bars dotted around that remain open all until about midnight and there are also 2 night clubs, both are good. If you fancy more, the town of Kitzbuhel is only a 20 minute drive away and taxis are reasonably priced.

The main reason for going though is the skiing.
There are 2 ski schools...The Red Ski School, and The Blue Ski School! Both are excellently run with dedicated and well trained instructors who speak English and German ( I know...I used to be one!!). There is also a creche type school for if mum and dad want time on their own!

The Ski runs in Niederau are mainly designed around beginner to intermediate skiers. There is some excellent off piest for those who know what they are doing but all will result in a long walk / hitch along a road back to the village!
There is a free bus service that runs every 30 mins between Niederau, Oberau and Alfrach. Yes, it does have space for your skis! Alfrach has a much larger ski route than Niederau, so more advanced skiers may wish to check it out.

Austrian resorts are always cheaper than any in France or Italy, and Neiderau is no exception. A large beer or glass of wine is about 3euros. a bottle of red or white wine from the supermarket will set you back a staggering 3euros also!!! An average meal for two (starter, main, desert and wine) in a nice restaurant will set you back between 30-40 euros. With good and friendly service.

All that's left now is a lift pass..these are around 130euros for the week. probably the most expensive part, but still cheaper than any other alpine country!

If you do decide to go, have fun and enjoy the mountains....Take only pictures and leave only footprints!!

Summary: A great place for a group of friends wanting fun, or a family just wanting to relax. Neiderau has it
