Nice resort...just a lack of snow? (Panorama)

Advantages: Very scenic, nice varied terrain, advanced and beginner parks

Disadvantages: Lack of snow, patchy cover

I visited Panorama when I was in Canada during Winter 08/09. I was living in Banff so it was a bit of a drive down the 93 which was a lovely drive and we experienced a lot of wildlife which was exciting, I can imagine the drive would be a bit more dangerous were we not in a substantial SUV.

The resort itself is a little out the way and seems to be a little different than the surrounding hills (Sunshine Village, Lake Louise) with a lot of real estate and some hotels around the resort. This makes it seem a little more European which was nice.

I was told by many Canadians and people working there that it wasn't too great a season in terms of snow, it hadn't snowed substantially for over a month when we were there which meant the conditions were less than ideal. On the whole it was very patchy and icey - especially closer to the top. From the summit, I substantially damaged my board on rocks and stones.

If there was more snow, this resort would have been excellent. There is a great deal of varied terrain as well as a beginner and advanced park, I was told they had made more of an effort with the park that year than in previous years. It was very quiet when we visited which meant there were no queues which was also nice, just would have preferred more snow!

Summary: All round it's a nice resort, it was just lacking in snow!
