Advantages: you can spend hours here as there is so much to do, out of the ordinary for a place like Dubai, great
Disadvantages: you will not want to leave!
The Ski Dubai attraction in Dubai is another one of the Sheikhs attempts to get Dubai on the map as being one of the top tourist areas in the world. This idea was really a case of turning the impossible into possible. As Dubai has all year round sun, beaches etc snow was to be out of the question, although I do remember a few years ago some snow flakes did fall in Dubai. A ski slope in Dubai is unbeleivable but yet a reality. It makes Dubai a place that has everything to offer. The dubai ski dome will also ultimately come in Dubais favour for when they will make a bid for the Olympics because no one can now object that due to dubais climate there is no snow there!
LOCATION
It opened in 2005 and is located on the most used and known road in Dubai, The Sheikh Zayed Road. The ski slope is in the Emirates Mall, another well known place. Due to the location it very easy to get there and accessible, you can get any cab to take you there. Tourists staying at the Kempinski Hotel have access to the slopes just like the guests of Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach hotels' guests have access to Wild Wadi.
SKI SLOPES OF DUBAI
Upon entering the skiing area you do not feel as though you are in Dubai it is something that is both out of the norm and also fantastic beyond belief. Previously you were only able to sand board on Dubais sand dunes, now you can snowboard! There are 5 slopes ranging from very hard or expert skier to ameteur. don't worry if you cannot ski, like me, there are instructors to guide you through this adventure. The ticket price includes the use of equipment, snow boots, clothing etc so you do not have to arrive kitted out in skiwear in Dubais sweltering heat! It is cold in the arena with real snow on the slopes, nothing artificial here! You have the option of skiing, snowboarding, tabbogoning or just playing around. Juts like if you were in a Swiss resort skiing there are chairlifts that carry you back up to the top of the slope to have another go. There is an interactive Snow Park where the whole family can have fun together. For those that are really into their skiing there is also a shop on site called Snow Pro where you can buy your own winterwear and equipment. There are also a few eateries, St Moritz Café and Avalanche Cafe where you can buy hot and cold drinks, snacks, meals all in a themed restaurant with pictures of skiers and snow on the walls. In the changing rooms you ahve assigned lockers which offer you reassurance that your possesions are safe. The ticket issue system is ultra fast ensuring you are ready and on the slopes in no time. Once you get into the swing of skiing you will find that the day is over but beleive me you will feel exhilerated and gasping for more. For the people of Dubai they have something that is available to them that they would ahe only ever thought of in their dreams. I know my family had a great time, although a bit sore at the end of it! I have recommended this place to people as something that they just HAVE to see and take part in. With Dubai planning more of these ski domes and ski resorts it will make Dubai an ultimate holiday destination.
Summary: Ski Dubai is definately a must for anyone travelling to Dubai

fizzywizzy - 08/06/07 I am not convinced about this place. As far as i can see the only reason to go to Dubai is for the sun (and if you want to stay in one of these new lux hotels). I have read a little about the old town but it doesn't appear to compare with other destinations. Therefore this is just a gimmicky way of saying "Look - there are things to do here!" - when really there's not much but shopping. Fiona |
