PLAN PEISEY – SKI RESORT.

Plan Peisey is an area which is located at a height of 1600 metres and situated within the popular French Les Arcs ski resort.

The resort is mainly associated with the skiing fraternity between the months of December and April but is also a base for summer activity and adventure holidays between the months of May to September.

Plan Peisey is a small compact resort in size but is ideally placed with doorstep skiing to the massive Les Arcs ski complex which comprises of Arc 1600, Arc 1800 and Arc 2000.

There is a reasonable selection of family type hotels providing bed and breakfast or half board accommodation available during the winter months and vary in price according to the season.

The are also a selection of privately owned smaller self contained room only chalets available which are hired out through the local agencies and again vary in price according to season and cater for up to eight persons.

There are a number of bars, cafe’s and restaurants available within the resort and for those seeking a more adventurous nightlife discos are located at Arc 1600 and Arc 1800.

There is an abundance of green, blue, red and black ski runs available to sort every type of skier from the novice to the advanced and are served by numerous ski lifts from base camp.

Mountain rescue is second to none should you be unfortunate to be involved in an accident whilst you are there.

Private tuition is also available through the qualified and impressive French ski school instructors and can be arranged privately or through the hotels should you wish to learn or simply brush up on your technique.

You could expect to pay anything between £20 -£30 for a two-hour lesson either during the morning or afternoon but is well worth it if you are a beginner. Cash or credit card can make payment.

There are stunning views of the surrounding alpine countryside with
the majestic Mont Blanc as the focal point.

Neighbouring La Plagne ski resort is located a short distance away and the nearest town at ground level is the picturesque Bourg St Maurice.

There are also a number of small guesthouses and flats available within Bourg St Maurice itself where access to the Les Arcs complex is by the funicular monorail system.

Plan Peisey is about an hour away from the Italian Border with the ski resorts of Val d’isere and La Rossiere within easy reach should you wish to have a change of scenery.

Although small in size Plan Peisey is a suitable ski venue and caters for all age groups and types of skiers.

Travel:

Flights are available by Easy Jet from London/Luton and Liverpool airports to Geneva airport in Switzerland and can sometimes be picked up quite cheaply depending on when you book and travel.

The journey from Geneva will take about two and half to three hours by car which takes you through the beautiful town of Annecy and onto Albertville and finally onto the ski resort of Plan Peisey.

You can if you wish travel by train directly from London via Paris to the town of Bourg St Maurice.

If you decide to travel by coach from the port of Calais you can expect to travel approximately twelve hours before you reach this destination. You could also expect to pay about £75.00 for a return trip to the United Kingdom and which includes your ferry crossing.

Many people travel to the resort by car that would take between eight and nine hours from the port of Calais.

Suggested route:

Leave Calais and travel along the A.26 towards Reims.
Travelling around Reims continue along the A.26 towards Troyes.
Travelling around Troyes continue along A5 towards Dijon.
Before reaching Dijon the road becomes the A.31 prior to Langres and this road will take you to Dijon.
This road eventually meets up with the A6 at Beaune and this is
the road that will take you to Lyon passing around Macon.
Travelling along this route you will of course have to pay road tolls and various peage booths that are located along the route.
Having reached and travelled through the tollbooth at Villefranche on the outskirts of Lyon turn onto the A46 and head towards Chambery. This is the ring road around the city of Lyon.
The A.46 will eventually become the A.43 and will take you directly to Chambery.
This is where the terrain starts to change to that of more mountainous scenery.
Having left Chambery the road will become the A430 and will take you to Albertville the home of a previous winter Olympic site. Note the five Olympic rings in the centre of the carriageway when you travel through the peage booth.
Having left Albertville you will travel along the D90 through the towns of Moutiers and Aime and it is a particularly scenic route.
Approximately 7km from the town of Bourg St Maurice you will see a sign for Peisey Nancroix and will turn right and start your assent up the mountain towards Plan Peisey.
You will travel over a train level crossing at Landry and begin to negotiate a series of hairpin bends along your journey that will take you through the village of Peisey Nancroix and the ski resort of Vallandry prior to your arrival at Plan Peisey.

Please note that in particularly hazardous conditions it would be advisable to fit snow chains to the tyres for your journey both up and down the mountain.

Having visited this ski resort several times over the past few years I can recommend it to anyone wishing to take part in skiing for the first time or even if you are a seasoned and accomplished skier.

I learned to ski at the ripe old age of forty-six and I do know of one particular gentleman who learned to ski at the age of seventy and can now hold his own with some of the very best.

I hope that the information provided will prove useful to anyone wishi
ng to take up skiing or wishing to visit this particular resort.

Best Wishes,
Peter2670

Nice one Peter. I've just written up an op on Isola 2000 in the southern alps which you may find interesting.
