Who needs apres-ski when skiing itself is this good? (Wilder Kaiser / Brixental)

Advantages: Rural villages, great slopes, fantastic ski bus Disadvantages: No guarantee on the weather! Not much night life Probably my favourite ski resort by far. It is ideal in that the resort is made up of several mountains, all serviced by small villages, so while the resort itself is very large the residential villages are not too 'touristy' - you really get a feel for rural Austria. About 50% of the slopes are blue runs, so it is very friendly for beginners. On the same note there are some very long, beautiful red runs, and also a few black runs (one with an 80% gradient!). Runs to the valleys are generally red, but sometimes get slushy towards the end of the day (to be expected). The ski-bus system is superb. It is included in the cost of your ski pass and goes past most major hotels. It runs every 20 minutes and takes the stress out of getting to-and-from the slopes. The mountaintop restaurants are varied, from very commercial to typical Austrian. For me, this resort fulfils all my holiday wants! Summary: A fantastic place for great skiing, whilst still avoiding the hubble of the busy tourist resorts |
