Toblerone Mountain (Zermatt)
Member Name: CC4England
Advantages: Beautiful, Nice Gentle Family Skiing, Great Resturaunts Disadvantages: Price, No cars allowed - Hassle to get to Zermatt is the archetypal 'chocolate box' ski resort, ideed, the matterhorn is the symbol for toblerone. The resort is absolutely stunning but can be difficult to ski. Zermatt is made up of 3 ski ares (discounting Cervinia), Klein Matterhorn, Sunnega and Gornagrat. The Klien Matterhorn is served by a modern gondola, Sunnega by a funnicular (Think London underground at rush hour) and Gornergrat by an old railway, which, if you lack patience, is not ideal as it takes about 40 minutes. The skiing is good for intermediates, the only real challenge lies in the infamous 'Trifji Bumps' on Sunnega, this is Europes longest mogul field and gives your legs a real workout. As far as food is concerned, Zermatt is the 'Land if the Mountain Resturaunts', with over 40 to choose from. I would recommend Franz + Heidi's, a family run resturaunt serving great quality food. The main problems with Zermatt is in getting there, no cars are allowed, and so it is advisable to get the train from Tasch which takes you into the resort. Summary: Well worth a visit |
