Advantages: Makes lips smooth and chap free, taste, look, price, packaging
Disadvantages: I still think softer lips are possible somehow
As some of you may know I recently discovered a funky little brand called Anatomicals who I can't stop raving about. Their quirky packaging and tongue in cheek sense of humour hooked me right in and due to the insanely low prices of these products (which you would think would be much more expensive if you didn't know better) I treated myself to a whole bundle of them. I've had nothing but positive experiences.
One of the things I purchased was a lip balm. This was for a few reasons; I was buying loads of Anatomicals stuff anyway, I needed a lip balm after the awful experience that was Blistex Intensive Moisturiser AND I couldn't be bothered going to the Trafford Centre to get myself a Burt's Bees one (apparently brilliant!).
The lipbalm comes in quite a large squeezy tube, bigger than say your average lip gloss tube. The tube is bright red with the product name "Stop cracking up" printed boldly on the front, with some accompanying funny text, finished off with Anatomical's signature quote "we only want you for your body". It fit's in well with the rest of the Anatomical's brand, and the whole thing is really just quite fun.
The lip balm itself is to "ensure [your lips are] not as dry as your local AA meeting"
The product itself looks like a clear gloss but perhaps a little more runny. You do have to be careful not to squeeze too much out, I'm still learning now, a little goes a long way with this product. I most often find myself having to find something to wipe the excess off my finger with. The lipbalm also actually looks quite like a gloss when on the lips, so although the tube is fairly unisex, this isn't really one for you guys (unless gloss is your thing of course!).
The balm isn't advertised as being any particular flavour but I definitely get a strawberry scent from mine, although it doesn't really taste of anything so you won't be tempted to go licking it all off your lips.
I'm yet to find the perfect lip balm, or maybe there's only so soft lips can go and I'm just wanting the impossible, but what I will say is this has performed better than others I have used so far. My lips were left smooth, with no rough or chapped bits. Also, one night, god I dunno what I was doing in my sleep but I woke up with a mouthful of ulcers (which I'm still sporting *ouch*) and a huge cut on my lip. I must have been trying to eat my own mouth! Well anyway...the cut on my lip really was big and very red and noticeable. I applied this lip balm throughout the day and by the following day it was healed.
The lipbalm contains beeswax which helps to seal and protect the skin by creating a protective barrier. It also contains olive oil which is excellent at penetrating and soothes, heals and lubricates the skin. As well as this the other frequently mentioned ingredient is zingiber which I can't find any information of how this is beneficial to the lips, it's a mystery!
Okay so the list of ingredients there isn't as impressive as say a Lush or Burt's Bees products, and I'm not going to claim it will do as good, but it does have your basic moisturising ingredients in there and I really do think it penetrates the lips well because this had a great affect on my lips.
Are my lips as soft as what I one day wish them to be? No. They are however smooth, chap free and healthy looking. So for this is the best lip balm I've found, although I'm sure there are still better out there somewhere and my next purchase will definitely be a Burt's Bees one.
At a mere £2 this lip balm is a great product and one that I am more than happy with. It's available either directly from the website or apparently in House of Fraiser and Superdrug. I bought mine from asos.com.
Definitely worth a try, and it gives your lips a lovely glossy look too.
Summary: A great lipbalm!
