Advantages: Moisturises dry skin without any irritation

Disadvantages: Not as effective everywhere

About two years ago I woke up one morning with a rash on my jaw and neck. My skin had become red, raised and dry and so my first port of call was my doctor. Believing the problem to be eczema, I was given a hydrocortisone cream, but after a few weeks, whilst the rash had mostly gone down, in its place were many small spots and the surrounding skin was still rather dry. So having been given antibiotics for the spots, I was also given a tub of aqueous cream to relieve the dryness.

With the current sensitivity of the skin around my face and my own self-consciousness about spots and redness, I was somewhat reluctant to put anything on my skin for fear of it making my skin worse. However, the aqueous cream did its job perfectly. I applied it on my face and neck and after about a week of using it, I found the dryness had started to clear up without causing any more spots, which was a huge relief for me!

The way aqueous cream actually works is to create a sort of barrier to stop the moisture evaporating from your skin as it is too much evaporation that causes the dryness. It has certainly helped prevent most of my skin from drying out. It is also great for using as an alternative to other soaps or facial washes if your skin is particularly sensitive to many of the more widely used products.

The cream itself is quite thick, so a little does go a long way - definitely making it value for money when a 500ml pot retails at around £3. There's no fragrance to it but it does leave the skin feeling a lot smoother and nicer to touch, without being greasy or oily.

My only disappointment with it is that it hasn't had as great an effect on my legs as some other moisturisers, though it still helped improve the dryness quite a lot, I found a more intensive moisturiser to be more effective there.

Summary: Perfect for sensitive, dry skin.

I'm using this on a heat rash I picked up whilst on holiday. It seems to be very effective.

This stuff is a miracle worker - I used to work at a company where the company nurse had carried out studies comparing it with hydrocortisone for its effectiveness on eczema - she always recommended it. And it's SO cheap.
