Advantages: Non greasy, absorbs well, great for instant relief
Disadvantages: Doesn't really have a long term effect on extremely dry problem skin such as mine
My sister gave me this tub of Avon's Dry Skin SOS Face Cream after realising it's too heavy for her skin, I've always suffered with extremely dry skin which tends to flare up on my face rather than being a constant battle so she thought it might be useful for the occasions when my skin is feeling particularly dry.
The cream smells nice and fresh, there isn't really a perfume to it but it's just a lovely light scent which is not dissimilar to products such as Nivea. The tub has a twist off lid which is smooth to get on and off, it's one of those which if you twist the lid and it's not on properly then you can just press on it to click it into place properly which is handy considering if you have the lid off in the first place then you will probably have damp or greasy hands.
Actually that's not fair as I didn't find this face cream to be greasy in the slightest, which was a surprise as the first thing I noticed about this cream is the fact that it's so thick and I was automatically assuming that it would be difficult to rub in and would leave a greasy residue. I didn't have to worry though as the cream absorbed very quickly into my skin, I could feel the skin on my forehead literally drinking in the moisture contained in this thick cream. The cream didn't leave my face feeling shiny or greasy, of course there was the sensation of having just applied a rich cream but this is not to be confused with an oily residue.
I am impressed with this cream, to be honest it wasn't as nourishing as I imagined it would be from the description and thickness of the cream itself. It provided very good short term relief from the itchiness and flakiness that dry facial skin provides, soothing and smoothing my skin for a short while after applying it. The problem is this cream needs re-applying too regularly for me to really bother with it too much, within an hour my face began to feel dry again so I slapped on my more medicated face cream and this provided a level of relief that unfortunately this Dry Skin SOS lacked.
I will however continue to use it as a now and again moisturiser as it's soothing and a nice enough cream to use, perhaps I'll use it when I get the occasional flare up and instead of applying to my whole face will just use a dab to cover any problem areas which may occur.
The 200ml pot costs £4 from the Avon book or online at www.avon.uk.com
Summary: Good for those problem areas but not quite enough to moisturise particularly dry skin.
