Advantages: Leaves skin feeling cleansed and refreshed, reduces excess oil, suitable for sensitive skin

Disadvantages: None, unless you don't like using smelly stuff on your face (though it shouldn't irritate it)

I'm writing this review for Avon Clearskin 'Purifying' Astringent; I couldn't find the exact product already listed on DooYoo but the Clearskin Astringent Cleanser seems the same and may very well be the same one (I'm not all too familiar with Avon products).

I don't have particularly bad skin in the sense that there's a few blemishes and whatnot but it's nothing to shine out in a crowd or make me feel self-conscious. I wanted something to help cleanse and get my skin looking a bit clearer and fresher so decided to give Avon's Clearskin a go after reading reviews that praised their products.

Clearskin Purifying Astringent can be bought from their catalogue/online for £3.50 though is currently on offer at £1.75. It comes in a small clear bottle with a blue twist top. Inside is 125ml of light blue liquid. It claims to help reduce excess oil and is designed for sensitive skin, so whether you're skin is resistant to chemicals or is prone to redness/blotches/irritation when using such products, this one should be kind to your skin.

To apply, simple unscrew the lid, add a few drops onto a cotton wool pad and gently wipe over your face avoiding eye/mouth contact. Then get a fresh piece of cotton wool and wipe over your skin to get rid of any dirt and oil reminents.

It's a small bottle, but if you use it once, or even twice, a day it should last you a good few weeks or even months as you only need a small amount on the cotton wool. When you poor it out, it doesn't slosh all over the place like some bottles I've used before so you don't end up wasting half of it. When comparing this to similar products from boots by brands like Neutrogena, I would say it's an average price. If you can get it when it's discounted then it's a bargain. I personally think this has better effects than the popular brands I've tried too.

It does have quite a sharp chemical smell, but it's not too overpowering or offputting. It's easy to use and when you wipe it across your face you do get the sensation of it working and cleansing your pores. You also get the satisfaction of seeing the grimey dirt and oil on the cotton wool too and it always feels like you're doing a proper job when you can see and feel it working. As I don't have huge spots or anything like that I can't say that it gets rid of them as such, but I do feel like my skin has been cleansed and refreshed after using the product.

Overall I wold definitely recommend this, especially if you have blemish prone or oily skin. If your skin is blemish prone but not dry, you might want to moisturise after cleansing. I do this anyway, but use an oil-reducing moisturiser so as not to undo my 'hard work'!

Summary: Definitely worth a try to cleanse your skin and reduce oil, especially when it's on offer :o)
