Welcome to Part 2 of this three part guide to fighting spots. The product I am concerned with today is Avon's Astringent Cleanser.

For those of you who haven't read part one of this 3-part series, I will quickly go over some background information. Being young, in the past couple of years I’ve had my fair share of problems with spots, but at the moment I am using 3 products on a daily basis that have greatly reduced and almost completely eliminated my spots. The first product I use, described in Part 1, is Clearasil Treatment Cream. This can greatly reduce and often completely remove spots when applied to existing blemishes on the face. The second product I use daily is this one, Avon Astringent Cleanser. The product fights greasy skin, which can lead to spots. The third product I use daily is Clearasil Complete, which, when used in daily face-wash will help to prevent the development of spots.

Next, some background information on why I use this product. As a teenager, I sometimes get greasy skin on my face, and this oil/grease can lead to the development of spots. Therefore, I use this product as it almost instantly removes all grease and other dirt from the face. As far as the brand us concerned, my mum used to be an Avon lady so I tried Avon Astringent Cleanser because of that convenience. There are alternatives, probably including a Clearasil version, however I have found Avon's lotion to be very effective and would not even consider changing to a different brand of cleanser.

Avon Astringent Cleanser comes in either a 250 ml bottle or a 125 ml bottle. I use the latter. The product is instantly recognisable because within the transparent bottle is a liquid that is a a noticeable shade of blue. Unlike other brands, Avon is good because it fills the bottle almost right to the top (but the tall bottlecap means spillage is not a problem) and also the transparent bottle allows you to see what's inside before buying. The
bottle has an Avon logo above a purple square, with 'Clearskin' and then a description of the product written below. It is nothing special, however it cetainly looks attractive enough. The 125 ml bottle certainly lasts me a long time, at least a couple months, but then again I don't use it as often as some people might. Still, no problems with the longevity.

For a description of the product, firstly I will quote the desctription included on the back of the bottle (in a total of 6 languages): "Efective yet gentle cleansing lotion to reduce excess oil for a cleaner, fresher look. Suitable for sensitive skin." The lotion will remove dirt from the face almost instantly after being applied. It is a blue liquid not dissimilar to water in terms of density, and it has a pleasant but far from overpowering smell. As I said earlier, I use it to tackle greasy skin, but the lotion has many other uses that would suit just about anyone. It certainly cleanses any dirt from the face, even mud (although after playin football I tend to get a shower rather than just use lotion), and it can also be used to remove make-up. All of these uses and more are done quickly, easily, effectively and consistently.

To apply, I use circular cotton wool pads which can be bought in large quantities for good prices in most shops. Simply pour some lotion onto the cotton wool, then apply to the skin on the face. Personally, I 'wipe' my face with the cotton wool pad in a circular motion. This takes 5-10 seconds. This is one of the only products I have used that literally gives 'instant reuslts'. Just ten seconds after applying the lotion, my face feels much cleaner and all grease is removed, and also my face left feeling fresh and revitalised. What is more, you can really feel your complexion becoming cleaner and drier instantly, it is a nice feeling that needs to be felt to be believed.

As with all skin products, there is an element of cau
tion required, and first I will quote the bottle: "Caution: Avoid Contact with eyes. Flammable." As well as this, it is important to ensure medicines and similar products are kept out of the reach of children, for obvious reasons. I would recommend discontinuing use if irritaion occurs, however the lotion is suitable for sensitive skin so just about anyone should be alright. Personally I have had no problems.

For those who may want to know, here is a list of the ingredients of the lotion:

Aqua
Alcohol Denat.
Glycerin
Nonoxynol - 12
Parfum
Citric Acid
Sodium Citrate
Terasodium EDTA
Benzophenone - 2
Bisabolol
Propylene Glycol
CI 42090
CI 17200

CONCLUSION
When used in conjunction with the two aforementioned Clearasil products, my spots have been greatly reduced, and after using this particular product I am left feeling fresh and revitalised. It cleanses the face leaving a fresh complexion and as well as removing skin grease/oil it also removes mud and make-up amongst other things. The results are instant and the lotion is effective, quick, easy to use and reliable. I recommend it to anyone as just about everyone could find a daily use for the lotion. It gets 5 out of 5 from me. However, remember you must also use other products for best results against spots – and if you iss out one the performance will be greatly reduced. For more information see my other two opinions in this series, the third opinion will be posted in the next couple of days.

Thanks for reading, comments welcome and appreciated.

Fortunately, the one good thing about reaching the ancient age of 30 is that spots are largely in the dim and distant past, though I do have a corking one right now. Too much information, I suspect, especially as what I came here to say was, great opinion, informative and v helpful... off to read part one now.
