Advantages: Nice smell, moisturising immediately after using, comfortable to use, good consistency
Disadvantages: No lasting effects
I like the Planet Spa range from Avon so was pleased to find a selection of products from the range in my Christmas stocking, one of which was this Hawaiian Thermal Volcano Face Mask.
The tube is very pretty in pink and white, it doesn't give many instructions which I find is typical for Avon but the gist I got was to smooth the mask onto my damp skin then rinse off after a few minutes.
The mask is easy to apply, it's a nice creamy consistency although I was surprised to find it's a little bitty as there is nothing on the packaging to suggest that this is an exfoliating mask. I was actually a little concerned about this as gritty facial products do not suit my skin at all but the fragrance was so creamy and light that I decided to apply some anyway as I have never had a problem with Planet Spa products before.
The mask doesn't warm very much when first applied, I left it on for around 10 minutes and found it very comfortable while I was lying in the bath. It's a very kind mask I think which felt moisturising and soothing while it was on my skin. When I came to rinse it off however this is when the cream became warm on my skin, which could really be taken in two ways; it either warms up too late or does some of its work while being rinsed off.
I must say my face felt very smooth after use, I wouldn't say it was particularly moisturising but neither was it a drying product which is always a good thing. I did find my face looked rather shiny afterwards and I don't really like this although I suspect it's a good sign that the gritty bits have sloughed off the dull and dead skin from my face. My face was so shiny though that I wouldn't have gone out like it and I was very glad that I had used the mask at night rather than first thing in the morning!
I have no strong feelings about this face mask really, it's nice enough to use and left my face feeling smooth and comfortable but I can't say it had any lasting effects as the next day my skin felt back to it's normal dry irritable self and it was almost as though I hadn't used anything at all. The smell is lovely though, it's very feminine and fresh which added to the pleasure of using the mask and for this reason I shall finish off this tube but I doubt I shall buy another as it's just not special enough for me to consider a treat like most masks in my bathroom.
The last time I saw the Planet Spa Hawaiian Thermal Volcano Mask in the Avon book it was on special offer at £1.25, I suspect its usual price is around the £2.50 mark which is about standard for products in this range. It's worth this money for the pleasure of using it, but as I said I won't buy again as there are much more effective masks on the market, some of which are even cheaper than this one.
Summary: A nice enough face mask but the effects don't last long at all.
