Advantages: Velvet-soft moisturised skin, nice packaging

Disadvantages: Nozzle is slightly stiff , (also - glass bottle not suitable for clumsy people), made forehead shiny

Up until a couple of months ago I didn’t really pay too much attention to my daily skincare – of course I used intensive masks and face washes to keep my skin clear and spot-free but I never bothered moisturising. However, as I decided I would like to keep my skin in tip-top condition for as many years as possible I figured it would be a good idea to start taking care of it now (age 20). So I went on a mission to find a decent non-greasy moisturiser and after receiving a tester of ‘Do It Daily’ with another BeneFit purchase I couldn’t be persuaded to try anything else.

DO IT DAILY

Even in the winter months our skin is subjected to daily assaults from the sun’s rays, and as sun exposure is a major factor in the premature aging of our skin it is therefore advisable to wear a sunscreen all year round. Fortunately BeneFit have taken this into account and provided an SPF rating of 12 in their moisturiser (all decent moisturisers generally have a built in SPF).

Naturally, being the packaging snob that I am, despite moisturiser being a “necessity” I still need it to look relatively appealing: and Do It Daily does. It is sold in a classy pale grey box; inside is an expensive looking matte glass pump bottle with a pale grey BeneFit logo (not a hint of the 50’s glamour that BeneFit is renowned for).

I often find that BeneFit’s instructions on a product are somewhat sparse and vague, but thankfully no one needs advice on when and how to use moisturiser – it’s easy! Just cleanse (then tone your skin if you do) and apply this moisturiser.

If there is one minor problem I could point out about this product it’s that the pump is slightly stiff so you can’t use a half squirt, it has to be a whole one (but it’s really not a problem as one squirt is the perfect amount). Once on your hand you’ll see why this product is not the cheapest in the shop: although rich and creamy, when applied to the skin it is absolutely feather light. You can tell it is on your skin because it instantly feels luxuriously velvety - and that’s no exaggeration! There is no noticeable smell to the lotion; it just smells creamy and ‘clean’.

I have normal skin (which turns combination ie. shiny forehead if I use the wrong things). I have to be careful when choosing a moisturiser that I don’t overload the oil-prone areas because it can cause me to break out in small spots. I was delighted to discover that using Do It Daily does not aggravate my oil problem or give me spots in the slightest. However, while it didn’t worsen my oil problem on my forehead while I was not wearing it, when I was wearing it it made my forehead shine, which I dislike. BeneFit claim that it is suited to all skin types but I would say it’s best suited to dry skin. You could use it if you have combination skin but I’d probably skip the forehead application.

If I apply Do It Daily to clean skin in the morning and don’t wear any makeup my skin feels adequately moisturised all day. Unfortunately I couldn’t comment how it may work with dry skin because mine is very rarely dry or itchy, but I think being as rich as it is then it would be perfect.

The final thing that I would emphasise about this product though, is that it is a BRILLIANT base for make up. Although I don’t have dry skin as such, I do find sometimes that applying foundation directly to my skin can often make it look ‘patchy’ in places. To solve this problem I apply Do It Daily and allow it to sink in for about 2-5 minutes and then apply light powder based foundation. I find this prepares my skin perfectly to achieve a flawless finish. I also believe it prolongs the life of my foundation, as it seems to remain fresh for longer.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

25ml for £14.50 (£58/100ml)
70ml for £23.50 (£33/100ml)

As you can see, it pays to buy the larger size but I bought the little one because I prefer small containers. I was planning to buy the large one and fill my small bottle as I required it but as it is not quite suitable I will continue my search!

BeneFit is available from some upmarket department stores but I would advise you to buy it from Boots to gain Advantage Card points (or do like I did and wait for triple points day for even better value!)

THE VERDICT

After using it for a while I can’t say I was blown away. It did keep my skin in good overall condition but I didn’t like the fact that it made my skin combination while I was wearing it because moisturiser is something you use every day. However, a small amount provides a light SPF coverage and a perfect base for flawless foundation so if you have completely normal/dry skin then I’d highly recommend this as it lasts a very long time!

A good moisturiser is a necessity. I use clinique but this sounds nice too.
