Advantages: Cheapish, Easy to Store & Relieves Chapped Lips.
Disadvantages: Tastes a Little Odd.
If there's one thing that always seems to affect me from late October every year it's chapped lips. No matter how much Vaseline I put on them at night I always seem to get sore lips during the day. Luckily my skin doesn't really flake off as I've seen on some people but nonetheless my lips feel chapped, dry and generally sting a little. I never leave the house without a lip balm in my bag and over the years I've become a bit of an expert when it comes to lip balms.
In my work handbag (yes I have a handbag for work and then several for weekend usage) I'm currently carrying a little pot of Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner which I purchased last month from Boots for £1.99. That price will get you a little white pot of the lip conditioner which comes housed in a lime green and white cardboard container, rather elaborate really when the little pot alone would suffice nicely on the shop shelves. The pot contains just over 14g of the product.
Blistex is an independent company that produces a range of products for the lips. After looking at their brightly coloured website I've learnt that they currently offer eight different products, the Daily Lip Conditioner being just one of them. The other products are packaged in either a small pot like this one or a tube and have various different names including Relief Cream (for very sore lips and cold sores), Silk and Shine (for added shine) and Satin and Gloss (with added gloss).
The daily lip conditioner comes in a small white pot with the brand name on the top in red. The packaging is quite effective really as it can withstand any battering in your bag and I as it's a screw on lid there's no chance of it coming off. I always worry with products such as Vaseline that the lid might accidentally pop off when it my bag so there's no chance of that with this Blistex product. Overall the packaging looks clean, effective and tidy so five stars there from me. The daily lip conditioner looks a little like bees wax to be perfectly honest, only slightly darker and more orange in colour. It has quite a solid consistency to it, if you tip the pot upside down there's no chance of it falling out although if you do allow the pot to get very hot you'll find the lip balm does melt slightly. There's quite an astringent, somewhat medical scent to it when you smell it - not overly unpleasant but not really the nicest of fragrances for a lip balm in my opinion.
To apply the product simply rub your finger over the top of it, if it's very cold then you may have to exert a little pressure with your finger. However under normal temperatures the product will go quite easily. Then you simply need to rub your finger gently over your lips before rubbing them together to ensure even coverage. The only issue I have here is that you must ensure you have clean hands when you apply this lip balm to avoid germs getting onto your lips or into the pot. There is a very slight tingling sensation, a little like Carmex lip balm but much less intense. The taste reflects the scent of the product, again not exactly an unpleasant scent but quite medical, a little sweet and sanitary too. The taste does fade after about ten minutes as does the slight shine that your lips get when you first apply the product. I can normally feel the lip balm coating my lips for around half an hour before it either fully soaks in or is removed onto glasses, etc.
The website advertises this particular product as providing tender love and care for younger looking lips, as such I presume it is medium in terms of moisturising. They seem to do stronger products for very chapped lips although this does offer to keep your lips healthy. It's bursting with vitamins A and E as well as containing aloe vera and collagen. It recommends you apply it daily or more frequently during prolonged exposure to dry, cold or sunny environments to protect your lips. Another added bonus is the fact that the product has SPF 15 to help protect against the sun's harmful rays, meaning it can also be quite useful in the summer too.
All in all I'm quite happy with the effects of this lip balm, it's really easy to use and also great to store. My only complaint is that you do have to use your finger to apply it which isn't always ideal if you don't have the chance to wash your hands before using it. The taste is a little odd but it's not unpleasant by any means and it gives quite a nice feel to my lips. My only concern is that the effects don't really last very long; if I apply it first thing in the morning my lips will often start to feel a little chapped long before lunch time so I do warn you that you'll find you're re-applying this about five or six times a day. I bought mine of a buy one get one free offer and if I saw that again then I'd definitely purchase it, however I'll probably try another lip balm next time if there's no offer on.
Thanks for reading.
