Advantages: Works well, decent price
Disadvantages: Tastes slightly pepperminty and I'm not keen
I was in Boots the other day and I was doing a regular check of my favourite products to see if any were on offer. One of the products I checked was lip salves and I found that the Blistex products were on offer 2 for £3.
I noticed that there was one called Blistex Intensive Moisturiser Hydrate which looked very similar in package design to the Nivea one that I like so much. The normal price is £2.25 so 2 for £3 was an excellent offer.
The lip balm comes in a little cardboard box fixed to the bottom of a piece of cardboard so the packaging is all recycleable then, as the tube itself also ends up in the recycling bag when it is empty too, so that's a good start as far as I am concerned!
The cardboard shows the Blistex logo clearly in bright red together with a pair of luscious looking lips
The writing on the cardboard states 'with five penetrating moisturisers for serious saturation and a soothing deep down tingle'. There's no answer to that is there?
The tube itself is about three inches long (or eight centimetres if you are a youngster!). It is white with a cap and contains 5g of cream. The only marking on the tube is the word Blistex in red and Intensive Moisturiser in pale blue on the front and 'Made in the UK and the address of the manufacturer on the back.
When the cap is removed the top of the tube is angled similar to a new lipstick in shape, with a hole through which the cream will be squeezed.
There are now two choices for the method of application and I use either depending on how I feel at the time. The main thing in both cases is to squeeze the tube gently - you don't need much to cover your lips.
Sometimes I squeeze the cream onto the angled head of the tube and use that to apply the cream directly to my lips and then spread it using either the top of the tube or my finger and other times I squeeze some cream onto my finger and then rub it onto my lips. Either way works just as well. The only problem with using the head of the tube to apply the balm is that I sometimes end up getting the inside of the screw cap a bit messy and have to clean it out.
The consistency of the cream itself is quite thick, but it is easy to spread over the lips. It isn't sticky as such but it does leave a light film coating on your lips after use. There is a slight tingle associated with this particular moisturiser but it is not unpleasant in any way. The cream also has an SPF factor of 6, nit high I know but it all helps.
The cream has a fairly light minty sort of fragrance and tastes slightly of peppermint. Luckily for me this is not an overpowering taste as I don't actually like peppermint! At least it means I don't lick my lips as frequently as I do with some of the other, nicer tasting balms so it lasts longer.
When I use this product I find that my lips feel instantly hydrated, smooth and comfortable. My lips also have a light sheen to them when I use this product.
All in all I find this cream really effective. It smells OK, it doesn't have a strong taste, it protects, soothes and hydrates my lips and a 5g tube lasts a long time as it doesn't take much to coat my lips.
The little tube is small enough to fit in the smallest of handbags so I can take it anywhere with me for instant relief.
