Advantages: Works... but slowly
Disadvantages: Slow to work, leaves bits on ur face!
THE PACKAGING "Act" is Boots own skincare range. This particular product comes in a matte silver tube (50ml) with a blue bubble shape covering the front and "Act" written in red in this bubble. I would say that the packaging was simple. It does not look expensive, eye-catching or particularly clinical. I think that it is meant to look slightly futuristic in order to appeal to teenagers. It is an own brand product (not renowned for their fantastic packaging) and you shouldn't judge a book by its cover! It is also much cheaper than other products on the market, which was one of the reasons why I bought it (the 100 extra Boots Advantage points also helped)! WHAT IT?S SUPPOSEDTO DO The Act range is designed for teenage skin. This particular product is meant for treating blemishes quickly. It claims to destroy spot causing bacteria (contains antibacterial agents), dry up grease and promote skin renewal for a clear complexion. HOW DO YOU USE IT? Personally, I blob it on any blemishes I might have, after cleaning my face before I go to bed. According to the instructions you should apply it twice a day after cleansing your face (with other Act products of course!) until the spot disappears. This suggests that you should apply it in the morning and wear it all day under your makeup. However, this is not possible because it is a gel and does not sink into the skin so you cannot apply any foundation/concealer on top of it (unless you want to look stupid!). So, unless you wear no makeup all day, and can face going out with blobs of spot gel all over your face, I would only apply it at night. DOES IT WORK? When you first apply the gel, you can definitely feel it working because there is a slight tingling sensation. Then, I go to sleep and leave it to do its magic. However, when I wake up in the morning the gel has all dried up and as it is clear, gives the appearance of peeling skin! Not attractive. I assume thi
s means it has reacted with something in the blemishes. Unfortunately, it does seem to make the spots go slightly redder before it makes them disappear. They probably react like this because they are drying up but I don't know if they would normally look so obvious without the use of Act! Also, it does take quite a while to start drying up the blemishes, roughly 3 to 4 days of application, and then it can take upto 10 days to make the blemish disappear completely. This is quite disappointing because with some other spot gels, the effects are almost immediate and you can notice a difference within one day of applying the gel. (I'm sure it would probably be a lot more effective if you applied it twice a day and used other Act skincare products.) THE VERDICT If you are patient and don't go out a lot then this is the ideal product for you! Its budget price is one of its main merits. However, I would be willing to pay a bit extra for a product that cleared up my skin a lot quicker than Act Emergency Blemish Gel does!
