Advantages: Cheap, doesnt irritate skin

Disadvantages: Very oily, have to wash off afterwards, struggles with waterproof mascara

I usually wear waterproof mascara most days and have found difficulty finding a eye-make up remover which will remove it easily. My usual one is a Clarins one which does the job fantastically however it is not cheap. I am therefore always on the lookout for a similar product and this is how I found myself trying out this one.

It is from the Boots Expert range and is called Boots Expert Sensitive Gentle Eye Make Up Removal Lotion. It costs £2.98 and is available from Boots stores or online at Boots.com

The lotion is hypoallergenic and is suitable for sensitive skin. It is fragrance free and dermatologically tested. It contains aloe vera and a blend of oils designed to sweep away make up. It all sounded promising but does it do what it says?

The product comes in a fairly large 200ml plastic bottle with a screw top lid. You don't need to use much product so the bottle does last for ages. The lotion well isn't really a lotion at all its an oil and it is very oily. You need to pour some onto a cotton wool pad and be careful not to get it on your clothing or towels. On applying it too your skin it easily removes eye shadow however I found it didn't tackle the mascara so well. I found it left some mascara still on my eyelashes even after a few wipes, it certainly did not sweep it away as it claimed to be able to do.

The other really bad thing is it is so greasy and oily your eyes look really oily and after using this I have to cleanse them with some cream cleanser as I don't want to go to bed with oil all over my face. I feel this kind of defeats the purpose you don't really want to have to use cleanser to clean off eye make-up remover.

I was really disappointed with this product however because its such a big bottle and you don't use much I think I am stuck using it for a while, I hate to throw anything out! It is certainly not a product I would buy again and despite my desire to save money I might just have to go back to using my Clarins products until I discover something else which will do a good job for less money. Sorry Boots I don't think you are expert at eye make-up removal!

Summary: Not recommended, a very oil eye make-up remover.
