I always have a lip balm or gloss handy in my jacket pocket, handbag or rucksack so when I saw the Boots Expert Soothing Lip Protector in Boots recently I thought I would give it a try.

The tube contains 10ml and currently retails for £1.56 although Boots often have special offers such as buy 2 get the third free (which is when I bought mine along with some other Boots Expert products) or as the current offer is Buy 1 get the 2nd half price. The lip protector is only available from Boots.

The lip protector comes in a plastic tube inside a cardboard box. The box lists the ingredients, which are lots of long words of rather chemical sounding names!

The cream is designed to be used for dry chapped lips which need a bit of extra care and attention. The cream is made with a moisture complex which is said to "instantly boost hydration by one third" and also improve your lips ability to retain moisture.

The lip protector comes in a little white plastic tube with a screw top lid. The design is very simple, plain white with blue writing saying "Boots expert soothing lip protector." Unscrewing the lid you see the domed applicator which has a small hole in the top. You need to squeeze the tube to dispense a little of the cream. You can use the dome to apply the product to your lips but I tend to just take a little onto my finger and then rub in. Its less messy keeps the top of the tube clean and also means you can get it to absorb more easily.

The lip protector unlike any of my other lip balms is a actual cream. It is white and has a bit of a smell but nothing particularly distinguishable. The cream is quite thin and absorbs quickly into my lips unlike lip balms which tend to coat the lip but do not absorb into the skin. Immediately my lips feel soft, smooth and moisturised. Unlike a lip balm they don't feel at all greasy and are not shiny. The moisturised feeling continues for several hours after applying.

I really like this lip protector. It leaves my lips feeling really smooth and soft. Because its not shiny and it isnt obvious you are wearing it its great for my husband to use if his lips are dry, most men don't want to look as if they are wearing lip balm. The price is quite reasonable and it works really effectively. It moisturises much better than any of my other lip balms even the more expensive ones. Its certainly one that I will buy again.
