Advantages: reduces puffiness
Disadvantages: expensive
I do night shifts and as a result my sleeping pattern has been quite badly affected. Although I've done nights for several years now, its only the last 6 months or so that I've felt the tiredness creeping up on me - I must be getting old!! Anyway, sometimes I only manage a few hours sleep at a time, and my eyes look puffy and tired. I decided it would be a good idea to invest in an eye gel or cream to try and combat the problem, and eventually decided on the No.7 awakening eye gel from Boots.
~About the gel~
This gel promises to 'reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles' so the skin around your eyes will look revitalised. It is fragrance-free and is specially formulated for the delicate skin around they eyes. It also contains witch hazel, horse chestnut and pro-vitamin B5.
~Packaging~
The gel comes in a small tube, and I think (although I can't be sure) that it originally also came in a small cardboard box. When you remove the cap the gel has a pointed nozzle which helps not to squeeze out too much of the product, as only a small amount is needed.
~Using it~
Using the gel is very simple. You simply apply a very small amount to the tip of your finger and pat the gel onto the area around your eyes whilst keeping them closed. It is important to pat the gel in rather than rub it in, as rubbing will drag the skin under your eyes.
When you first apply the gel it feels quite greasy, but after a few minutes it does settle into the skin and leaves a non-greasy finish. It also feels quite cold and cooling on the eyes, which is an especially nice feeling on tired eyes.
~Results~
I find this does reduce puffiness, but doesn't cure it completely. It didn't make any difference to my dark circles, but the circles around my eyes are, I think, genetic and I don't think I'm ever going to get rid of them! It has a lovely cooling effect and although it feels greasy at first, once it has dried the greasy effect goes completely.
~Price~
This is fairly expensive at £8 for a 15ml tube, but as you don't need to use much, it will last a while.
~Overall Verdict~
This is a great product to give your eyes a little pick-me-up and stop you from looking overly tired, although it will not reduce puffiness completely. . It is expensive, but as I said one tube lasts a long time, so I think it is worth the money.
