As some of you already know I received a set of No 7 skin care items at Xmas and I'm gradually working my way through them. One of the items was a trial size of this Total Renewal Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator which delighted me as I had wanted to try something along these lines for a while now.

My tube is 25ml but normally it is available to buy in 75ml size tubes for £10.30. The tube is plastic, cream in colour and tells us this stuff will "instantly reveal fresher, clearer, younger looking skin". Brilliant, just what I wanted!

So shortly after Xmas I took myself and my tube of exfoliator off to the bathroom to shed my old, lined skin and come out looking years younger. I washed my face first and left it slightly damp then squeezed some of the product into my hand.

The exfoliator is a white cream that smells slightly fragranced and you only need a blob about the size of a large pea to do your face and neck. I started rubbing bits into my skin in circular motions and found it was actually very abrasive. No surprise there really, it is called micro-dermabrasion after all! The longer I rubbed this in the harsher it became and I was wondering if I ought to have done a test patch first. I have pretty sensitive skin and it's prone to red patches, dry patches and irritation for seemingly no reason so this kind of exfoliator had me a bit worried.

The particles in this are tiny but very sharp and really take off a layer of skin. So once I'd rubbed it on my face and neck I rinsed it off with warm water excitedly anticipating how much better my skin would look. I even planned to apply a bit of moisturiser afterwards and go downstairs to see if my partner realised something was different so sure was I this would make me look fabulous!

What I found once the white cream had been rinsed off was a very red face! My skin had gone a bit crazy and rather than producing red patches this produced red skin all over my face. It reminded me of the scene in one episode of Sex and The City where Samantha has a chemical peel! Now not feeling so confident about showing off my "new" skin I stayed upstairs for a while. I'm sure my partner would have noticed a difference but not for the better!

Thankfully about an hour later the redness subsided and did indeed leave me with fresh, younger looking skin. But please note this was a whole hour later so if you plan on using this before a night out or an occasion use it hours in advance or the previous day!

My skin felt super smooth and looked very fresh and the end result was very good. I can't say my partner noticed, he didn't, but to be honest I suspect I could have a face lift and he wouldn't notice! I've since used it a couple of times and had the same effect. I think it would be best to use this once a week to keep the smooth, fresher effects but I would really advise anyone with sensitive skin to do a test patch first, it really is very harsh.

Overall though it's really effective, takes off the top layer of skin, leaves you with a smooth, fresh complexion and takes very little time to achieve. The redness is the only downside to it and as long as you're prepared for this you can take steps to avoid anyone seeing you during this stage. Thoroughly recommended.
