Advantages: LOVELY MOIST WIPES THAT ARE SO KIND TO THE SKIN!
Disadvantages: THEY DON'T TAKE TEN YEARS OFF ME EVERY TIME I USE ONE!
Now it has to be said as I start this review that I am not a huge fan of face wipes in general - preferring good old-fashioned soap and water to wash my face, before the traditional 'cleanse, tone, moisturise' bedroom routine of wiping a day's makeup build-up off my delicate facial skin.
However, there are occasions when cleansing wipes can be an absolute godsend - for example when your errant teenage Gothy daughter decides she's soooo bored that it would be "fun" to coat Mum's visage in caked-on 'gunk', who then ends up resembling a demented clown!
And then somehow poor 'Mum' has to remove all the cosmetic carnage without scraping the entire epidermis off her hypersensitive skin! *Sigh*
Aforementioned offspring will use nothing else however; despite my many warnings of such cleansing cloths not removing makeup properly, or that they could actually grind more of the day's impurities into the facial pores, than they actually effectively remove.
But what would I know; I'm only her Mum...?!
So, in the spirit of providing what spoilt only child desires, decent quality face wipes are provided in amongst the huge medley of many other bathroom products - just like a good parent should...*Even Bigger Sigh*
If you are regular reader of my reviews, you will know I favour 'Boots' the Chemists greatly for several reasons; not least because I got loads of their merchandise on 'Special Offer', with the subject of this write up, happily, being no exception. *Smiling Happily Now*
Boots 'Time Delay Hydrating Cleansing Wipes' come in at around the £3.99 mark, if paid for at full price nowadays.
Not that I paid that of course - more like I got them completely free on a Boots Promotion they ran early last year, where you got a free £4 voucher off 'Time Delay' skin care goods upon generally spending £5 or over on miscellaneous products at the till. Fantabulous!
I stock piled for England at the time, as these greeny/grey plastic packs containing 30 wipes are totally airtight - sealed beneath a white flip-up thick plastic lid; which in turn has a little sticky inner re-sealable label underneath it, to give added protection against the contents drying out.
As I know several people around me who use this type of thing regularly, I kept several packs back as stocking filler gifts towards Christmas pressies too, as well as for personal use at home for Gothy, plus guests.
The Pack itself is about 5"x4", so quite a handy size pack; with the wipes themselves being around 6" squared when fully opened up, after individually removing from the packaging.
On the front of the covering it states 'Daily Skin health', as well as a hefty promise that 'Skin Looks Younger Day By Day'.
Well I don't know about that, but the wipes themselves smelt expensively divine - very floral in aroma, plus feel every moisturising and replenishing to the touch.
The manufacturers tell the user on the side of the packet that these hydrating cleansing wipes actually cleanse and tone, 'leaving skin brighter and more radiant'...nothing a good night out on the tiles wouldn't do then really?!
Directions for use can be found on the other side - common sense stuff like wipe the single use cloth over one's face and neck, avoiding contact with the eyes, etc; plus not to put near fabrics and to keep the contents resealed. No flushing of the cloths either, apparently (like we all don't do it!).
The ingredients list reads like one of those scary Chemistry exams I totally flunked at school (hangs head in shame...); though there seems to be a lot of 'glycol' this and that in addition to a 'ginseng extract', plus 'vitamin C' in there - which explains the 'Natural extracts may result in colour variations in the wipes' sentence then, hmm.
Blended with powerful antioxidants (am at the 'face-lift-and-nothing-less-can-help-her-now-poor- mare' stage of life...but thanks for the helping hand anyway, Boots!); and very importantly to me as a sufferer of eczema (just about everywhere it can plague me on my easy-to-chemically-irritate body), these little concertina stretchy, fibrous squares are dermatologically 'proven' to be kind to the skin.
So there we have quoted above, a lot of rather bold claims for 'people of a certain age' - in terms of the Time Delay designed range of health/body/facial care, but do these wipes actually fulfil the written criteria?
Well in my opinion they are definitely gentle to the skin, smell utterly gorgeous (even on the softer hands afterwards), without any strong nasty chemicals that can dry the surface of the face out - making it feel uncomfortably taut.
The cloths are incredibly strong and resilient compared to a lot of the 'cheaper' paper-thin alternatives out there; nice and sufficiently moist to do the job of cleaning up any oily or dried on makeup residue...and definitely feel luxuriously moisturising to the touch, as mentioned earlier.
As I said at the beginning, not a product I personally would use regularly, although they are smashing for getting the more stubborn of 'waterproof' mascaras off without a doubt - but I have no qualms about my child using what I class as a high quality skin care accessory.
Neither has either of our faces had any inadvertent reaction, and I do have one the most horrifying sensitive of complexions generally...
I can certainly recommend these cleansing cloths to do a decent surface clean-up job, although I would say still at least use a toner occasionally to 'equalise' the skin's surface before thoroughly 'feeding your face' with a rich, nutritious night-time moisturiser that soaks in throughout the night.
Ooh, and don't forget to exfoliate if you are a regular user of facial wipes - that's a great way to get rid of upper layer dead skin build up!
Four moisturised, hydrated shiny cleansed dooyoo stars my review of the day gets from this writer, all glistening in the sky!
Not as good as the super quality 5 star No7 variety of facial wipes, nor the lovely 'Oil of Olay Total Effects' brand; but a very worthy contender, nonetheless.
Well done indeed Boots, once again!
Summary: AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT FROM BOOTS ONCE AGAIN, SMELL LOVELY - PLUS FEEL SUPER THE SKIN...
